Winmerge is very handy.

Upgrade or not?

I usually create a local mirror of the website with the same directory structure. All my hacked files are stored and updated there.

Then I would use Winmerge to compare and update the files.

Hope this helps.

So far, I have not had any problems with Xoops-based sites. One of daily non-xoops sites I go to has this weird problem and usually refreshing would fix the problem.

Browser particulars:
Mozilla 1.6, resolution 800x600

If www.phlak.org is your web site, then the only thing suspicious is that your hosting changed PHP from PHP/4.3.3 to PHP/4.3.4 on January 19, 2004. It seems to me there were too many PHP re-compilations by the hosting company.

You could check your server history HERE

If you had not done anything to the settings, then upgrading to PHP/4.3.4 could be cause of the problem. Maybe something was not included when they did compilations.

Maybe someone else can help this?

Hope this will answer your question:

You did not say about your database. Is it re-created with the database name and password specified in the mainfile?

Check WIKI on "blank page" if you still have the same problem.

So ... my question ... finally. Should I just stop worrying and continue to use the 2.0.6RC version? or is there someplace I can still download the 2.0.5.2 version?

You can download 2.0.5.2 from
Sourceforge

Hope one of the webmasters will re-list the direct download of the whole packages.

Your mainfile.php defines the physical path as
/home/closetojesus.org

but the error message indicated as
/home/mthieme/public_html

Double-check your physical path in the mainfile.php file. This could be your problem.

Remember to change your MySQL password afterwards. It is readable by anybody visiting your site.

Xoops requirements:
WWW Server (Apache, IIS, Roxen, etc)
PHP 4.1.0 and higher (4.3.1 or higher for IIS)
MySQL Database 3.23.XX or 4.X.XX

You did not provide enough information (next time, please provide as much info as you could, you would get quicker and better answers), I suspect that your server is running PHP 4.0.6. With PHP 4.0.6, you would essentially be redirected back to the login page even you had the correct username and password.

I am only guessing. If that is not the case, take a look at the troubleshooting page and you might find your answer there:

check the two search.inc.php files

modules/mylinks/include/
modules/mydownloads/include/

One of the files may be corrupted.

I have noticed some of the files packed were not the most recent versions according to the CVS.

two examples:
lostpass.php - still the old version and the password recovering loop unfixed
include/searchform.php - old version using post method

These two files have been on the CVS long time ago and I am not sure why were not included in the upgrade. Maybe other files as well.

banners.php and include/common.php were included and they have just been changed recently according to the CVS.

Wondering why the selected packing? Hope this will not be creating version confusion in the future upgrades.
