Well your process seems sound, although to edit my templates I just:

- Clone a template set
- Set the cloned templates to the 'default' set in Admin > Preferences > General
- Set 'Update module template .html files from themes/your theme/templates directory?' to 'yes'
- Go to System Admin > Templates > Module > whatever.html > Edit
- Make changes, hit submit

...& thats it, no updating modules or erasing templates_c.

Templates used to baffle me, I would download the entire 'templates_c' folder & edit the html files & then overwrite the edited template files directly - which was a tremendous pain vs the method described above. Still have issues exporting/importing templates, sometimes I will export & think I have a backup & go to use it & find that the exported gzip has 0 bytes... but sometimes it works.

*shrugs*

Have you tried just enabling 'Update module template .html files from themes/your theme/templates directory?' in System Admin > Preferences > General Settings, before editing your cloned template files?

You might wanna check out MyXoops Themes which offer a dynamic horizontal menu with dynamic sublinks in Flash. These themes are currently only available with a MyXoops Club subscription, but MyXoops will be offering freeware themes soon.

I havent actually used Mambo but I can definitely say that the Dreamweaver extension for XOOPS is much more user friendly and functional than the extension available for Mambo. If you are planning to use Dreamweaver to edit/create your theme/template, the extension itself is a good enough reason to use XOOPS. In my very humble opinion, of course :)

The easiest way to go about that would be to edit the contact form template, rather than the php files. You need to clone the template set first, set the new cloned templates as the default set in preferences, then edit the contact form template to suit your needs.

I can suggest a better alternative though, use Liase for your contact forms. With Liase you can add/edit custom fields, have multiple forms, insert html anywhere within the form & just basically have a lot more control over every aspect of your forms. You can find Liase here.

Hope this helps :)

Do I have to manually get the screenshots?

Yup.
Then upload them to yoursite/modules/mylinks/images/shots
Then you can find them in the drop down menu and add them per link.
