In the past few days ALL of my XOOPS sites, on different servers, have been getting several users an hour. They all put google.com down as their homepage. Most of them don't validate their accounts, but some do. I have been deleting them under the assumption that they are either spammers or some sort of bot.

Anyone else experiencing this?

What's your URL? What version of XOOPS are you running and which forum module?

Have you tried oledrion? It seems to work better for me.

Mamba,

Sorry, I was busy deleting the whole installation and uploading 2.0.18 + doing a little venting. I DO appreciate what you are doing, and I have stood by XOOPS for a long time now. I have always donated time and resources whenever I could. i have recommended, promoted, and I have supported the development of my favorite modules with ideas, funds when I could afford it, feedback, testing, etc. I was just up all night trying to set up a site, and found too many problems with 2.4. I made sure I searched out the "latest" versions the modules I tried. (Contact, Contact Us, Liaise, News, I tried CBB and newbbex.... I really couldn't get much of anything to work well enough to use it on a production site.)

I will use my version of 2.0.18. I have my own administration area that my clients like and I have worked out the bugs in my favorite modules, plus have customizations... I was just hoping to have fun with the new release.

It was a fresh installation.

Apache version 2.2.13 (Unix)
PHP version 5.2.9
MySQL version 5.0.81

I have to get back to work. I need to get this site up and running.

Good luck. I know you have a lot on your plate and I can imagine your work is never done....

Mark

I have problems with ALL modules I have tried with 2.4. No matter what editor is selected all I get is dhtml. That's it. Content, News, etc. Using the latest versions of all modules.

I have to say, I am getting tired of DOWNGRADING xoops. Once again, deleting a whole installation and starting over. You would think the system would IMPROVE with development. The ONLY improvement I see with 2.4 is the installation and security. The rest of it reminds me of 2.2.3... full of bugs and not very functional.

What good is a system that only works with a few of the modules?

Userpage limits the page size, users can only create one page, but if those things could be overcome, then I guess so.

A module called USERFOLDER would be better. Each user gets a folder in the site base directory and they could upload pages, edit pages and add files through their own account login. Would be just like userpage with modifications so they could build their own site through the main site, I guess.

Hello everyone!

I have had this nagging idea in my head ever since geocities shut down.... See, I am running a non-profit site for a horse rescue on xoops, (As well as about 10 other non-profit XOOPS sites.) When geocities shut down recently many horse rescues and other nonprofits lost their webpages.

What I would love to see: A module that is a basic control panel for a sub-site of a domain. A user could register on the parent XOOPS site, and the module would create a sub-folder and a holding page when they filled out a setup form. i.e.-http://mydomain.com/NONPROFITSITE and an index.html holding page.

Then they would have a mini control panel / file manager with a .html page text editor and an image upload tool. They could build their whole static site in the sub-folder AND it would give them a search friendly url.

The main xoops-powered site would have a directory of the hosted member sites that is searchable.

I remember the old file manager module from WAY back. There is the userpage module, etc.... I just don't have the skills personally to build a module like this.

Is it a possibility? This would help so many people. I mean, it's just an idea, but I had to share it.

I had the same problem with the protector file in the "extras" folder. Install white screened when it got to the module installation stage. I actually had to re-code the mainfile.php file afterward. I had to remove the "compatibility" coding and re-do the pre check and post check lines. ONLY then did the site run properly with protector.
