Re: Error in newbb notification

Have we decided on how to fix the problem of unpriviledged users receiving notification of privilaged newbb2 forums?

This is the post that sums up my problem with this.

I.E. As admin it is most convenient for me to recieve global notification all posts. However if global notification is allowed any member who has subscibed to global receives notification of all posts, including posts in moderator forums.

Constantly updating my options on a forum by forum basis is very labour intensive.

Although they cannot then access these posts it:

a)loads the server unecesarily
b) annoys the individual member

As our forums are growimg fast not allowing global is most inconvienient.

The perfect fix would be if one could set available notification options on a group by group basis (not likely I guess).

Is a fix for this likely or is global notification going to remain effectivly unusable for a site with private forums?

Re: Restricting access to user information

This would be really useful.

my first XOOPS site has been a great success but development has slowed considerably due to members treating webmaster as public property.

Despite installing smart FAQ and providing notes on how to use it I continue to get variations on the same questions with monotonous regularity.

I appreciate this is in part my own fault for for not creating a more intuitive interface but it's a catch 22 with the contstant interuptions disrupting efforts to do so.

I now respond with the FAQ link to "How to ask a question" in most cases nontheless it's still tedious.

Why do people do this? because they can!

I have been searching for a way to conceal my profile but the functionality you specify would be even better.

For the time being I have removed my webmaster rank.

Re: ERROR: Name is reserved.

I have recently had a few comedians trying to register variations on the webmaster login name.

EG. name1, name2 etc.

Am I right in thinking then that disallowing ^name would stop this.

or should it be ^name^

Can't believe I never thought of this, thank you.

I would prefer to disallow images entirely, is this possible?

Re: xcGallery Bug & Request

Yes I have this problem also and worse yet a particular user who seems to be exploiting this bug.

The first time they uploaded 10 pictures (approval was off), later on another member pointed out that their count had jumped by 50.

Last time they posted two images (approval on), after approval I noticed the post count had jumped by 50 again?

On the first occasion syncronise failed to work and I had to use PHP my admin to correct this.

On the second occasion synch did work (sort of) but still leaves their total 1 above what they have actually posted.

Only other other thing to note was that on the second occasion they logged in and out many times after uploading and eventually sent a PM asking that I please approve their pictures.

Cant help thinking they were impatient to see the result of their exploit.

This account is also one of the accounts I am having trouble with RE: innacurate login date.

I have asked a trusted member with php skills to try to reproduce this but she is busy so it may take a while.

Not sure if this could be related.

Re: Gzip compression really working ?

Just when you thought it was the end of the thread!

As an afterthought, Using the test sites given at the start of thread I notice that xoops.org is not using compression and does rather badly in these tests.

since XOOPS already uses smarty for content caching, I wouldn't think it to be desirable to switch to or add a different caching engine.
Until this bug is fixed, if you want to ensure that your pages are gzip encoded you can disable the "Use gzip compression" setting in System -> Preferences -> General Settings and add the following to XOOPS_ROOT/.htaccess
php_flag zlib.output_compression on
php_value zlib
.output_compression_level 5

zlib.output_compression_level can be from 1 to 9, with 9 being the highest compression. Normal settings are usually between 3 and 6.

Please note that your host must be using Apache and has to allow you to create .htaccess files for this workaround to function.

This works for but good!

Huge increase in performance.

Elegant solution for my virtual server thanks.

Hi everybody,

I was thinking of a hack that could automaticaly delete users who haven't activate their accounts after xdays (where x is the number of days to set).
I heard many people who was searching it. So I put this idea if someone can do this, but if nobody do it that's not important, i don't post this to have the hack, it is just a simple idea.

Hope my post is good (french user powa ).

Thanks

I have been looking for a way to do this and also to autodelete accounts with blank profiles or specific blank fields in profiles. Again after a set number of days.

This would save a great deal of time as it is labour intensive.

PS your english is just fine.

Rgds
