mylinks image resizing

The category image used in mylinks resizes to 50 and cannot be changed through the administration panel. I have looked through all the mylinks module code and can't trace where the resize takes place. All I want to do is have the graphics for each category remain the original size as uploaded.

Can anyone point me to where the resize takes place?

This is done with the Blocks section of your Administration Panel.

Assuming you have the NewBB module installed, you then go to blocks and set the newest posts to show. If you want the topics to be centered at the top of your main page, with the last 10 topics, then you would set the block to show whatever you want: the placement, the number of topics, which pages you want the topics displayed on (the main page, for one) and so on.

I can't seem to troubleshoot this one very well.

One problem is that the XOOPS install insists that the actual directory is /home3/xxx/xx when it is actually /home/xxx/xx. I don't know why it "sees" it this way.

I've tried directly editing mainfile.php to put in the correct directory without success. If you try and put in the correct directory as part of the install routine, it won't install. Installing it with /home3/xxx/xx just leads to a blank screen. when you browse to the site. Even if you browse directly to index.php you still get a blank screen.

Any ideas for a workaround on this?

Database naming convention problem

I've installed XOOPS literally hundreds of times without a problem. I am trying to install into a parked domain that uses a naming convention for databases like this: mainsite_com_parked site. I had no problem installing to a database named mainsite_com and can install this parked XOOPS site by using that database and having a different table indentifier (like "xoops2"). XOOPS has no problem "seeing" the database named mainsite_com.

The databse mainsite_com_parked exists and I can add fields and so on from the server's control panel. When I try to install Xoops, all is fine until the end where the XOOPS install says the database does not exist. The only thing I can think of is that XOOPS has a problem with the naming convention xx_xx_xx.

Any thoughts on what is happening?

Go to the module repository

https://xoops.org/modules/repository/

and look through some of the categories. Form Processors, Contacts and Customer Support come to mind.

Most certainly use the new WF-Sections module for your articles. It may be a bit daunting at first because of the complexity, but you will be very glad in the long run because of all the options you will have.

After running iContent and XFsections head-to-head for awhile, I decided that iContent handles what I want a little bit better.

Here's why: as far as I can tell, XFsections does not pull html content directly into XOOPS native search. With iContent, you pull in any HTML document with the iContent directory and pages admin panel and the total content is immediately searchable with Xoops. With XFsections, unless I'm missing something (which is entirely possible), you cannot do it directly. You have to run the content through the XFSections HTML editor first --which can be a pain if you have a large number of pages you want to use with the least work. Another little bug I noticed is that when you are given a choice of using the editor or uploading an HTML file, if you choose to upload you get an error message telling you the editing window cannot be blank. So --you have to put in a period or something in the editing window before you can upload a HTMl file. Very strange.

Maybe this is something that is in the plans to fix?

NewBB topic locking

I locked a thread in my forum only to have the guy who prompted the lock go merrily on posting. If I try to post, I get a "locked topic" message.

Anyone else see this happen?

PS: It would be nice if NewBB had a locked topic graphic or something showing the topic is locked --or am I missing it somewhere?

Funny thing, I haven't upgraded from 2.0.5 yet I am getting more and more people who complain that they can register, but not post on the forums.

One today swears she does not have Norton or any other firewalls and that cookies are enabled. I just can't figure it out. For every 10 registrations, about one is having this sort of problem. This seem to be a fairly recent thing.

"I would suggest you dig a little further in software that you make comment publicly."

Ok, I looked at Freecontent 3.0 again. You are correct that native XOOPS commenting is supported.

However, printing in the sense that the end user can display a printer-friendly version and then print out with a click (not using the browser's lame printing method) and with the developer's logo on the printed page, is not supported. The other modules in which I said printing is supported have this capability.

Also, XOOPS native searching does not appear to be supported. This is a must, in my humble opinion. What is the point of pulling in content if the content cannot be searched. I still maintain "low" for power is appropriate. Again, this is purely subjective and for my purposes, as I have already said. From someone else's viewpoint the power could be "high."
