I am nearing completion of CVD's first release of the Shoutbox module. We have added a few preference parameters to provide text entry area options, added avatars to main block display, enabled database table storage of message entries and provided sanitizing of entries. We also created an OnUpdate function so if the required database table doesn't exist it will be created when a module update is performed.

Watch for the announcement of the initial release within the next few days. Currently cleaning up the documentation and making sure all credits are in place for the work of previous developers.

I have received no response so I decided to get busy studying the module so I could fully understand it's current state. As it turns out most of the coding for using the database for storage was already done.

I have the database storage now working on my site. I added some sanitizing to protect the database table entries and I added some preference parameters to define a few options for the text entry area. As soon as I expand the trim function so you can limit the number of entries stored in the database I will be posting the first CVD release with my updates.

I am not ignoring any requests but I would like to release the module pretty much with Jan304's features intact and all operational for everyone's review initially.

The only reason categories won't appear in the Manage A Category screen is if the Video Categories Enable preferences parameter is programmed to No. Well that is the way it is supposed to work.

Do you have other categories that are displaying properly or does the Manage A Category screen message say "Categories are not enabled at this time"?

I have Shoutbox v4 beta on one of my sites and the visitors love it. Was wondering if the development work has ceased. I have been thinking about picking up where the last developer left off. I would really like to expand this module to use a database table for entry storage and clean up some of the loose ends I have found.

Check System/Preferences/General settings

Make sure that Check templates for modifications ? is set to YES

Love the layout, very professional. I had a problem with some of the links but I figured you don't have everything populated yet.

One suggestion: To promote visitor interaction I would add a blurb about what the benefits of registering are. Do I get to see more content? Do I get direct access to technical support? Does it put me on a mailing list so I get newsletters containing feature updates and product/services reviews?
