Re: Newbb Hack - how much of it is realized in XOOPS 2.0.9.2?

I am very happy with newbb hack (www.funkpause.org), because it allows to create groups of forums with different "stages of visibility" (do I remember right?).

Great advantage for "NGOs" (example):
If a questions is posted in a public forum, I could post in private forum: "Somebody has posted this question, can it be answered by one of the moderators please, because I would like to fly to the Seychelles tonight -> thats just what I am dreaming of ))"?

myQuestion:
For future installations of XOOPS I would like to know, how much of the hack-functionalities is incorporated in XOOPS 9.0.9.2 and following (then I might not have to install the hack), or which additional functionality I will still have with newbb (than it is worth installing newbb again).

to be a "just a bit more" specific:
Is it possible to add a user to a number of forum in one go (like taking user and adding the forums in one go -> right now I have to call up each forum and add the user again and again).

Anybody can give a quick view of "how newbb hack will develop compared to XOOPS core functionality?

Maybe Eclipse ist not important for XOOPS, but it is very interesting for Zend users, because not only IBM Websphere Studio is using Eclipse as ide, but also SAP uses Eclispe SDK in "Developer Studio". SAP also has a great interest in Zend as you can see below.

Intel Capital and SAP Ventures invest undisclosed sum in Zend
ZEND TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC INVESTMENTS BY INTEL AND SAP VENTURES

I was surprise how fast SAP digs into open source, side by side with IBM. This is a interesting perspective for people intersted in open source business intelligence.

PS:
Here you can find a nice ppt about "Eclipse and its Corona"

thanks bluenova, maybe uploading and installing XOOPS by user is even more straightforward than using cpanel scripts (I tried a couple of times, also running in one or the other (path related) problem).

I just want to check out the fantastico install and learn if it is "compatible" with the "upload method" you described. If somebody can straighten out this path-problem (links on startpage calling /html/html/ instead of /html/) I will post "best practices" comparing "user installation" and "cpanel instalation".

XOOPS via cpanel - installation path?

I just tried to install XOOPS via cpanel (my host surpass provides fantastico installation scripts).

installation path:
/public_html/html
-> when asked for installation path I added /html/

problem:
When calling my website withhttp://www.volksbegehren-mobilfunk.de
- I can See Startpage with login, but no colours, etc.
- when trying to login I receive error:
The requested URL /~mbf/html/html/user.php was not found on this server.
- all links are calling for directory /html/html/ instead of /html/

what I tried:
- I looked up mainfile.php and found all paths leading to:
-> it should be allright to have these settings, when installing in / public_html / html / ?

Anybody knows. Maybe this is a very basic question and I will try to check myself. But if it is so easy to make a mistake in "standard install" via cpanel, then maybe more people have the same problem? If a solution is found, I will post it in surpass.

solution: I deleted index.html (cant remember where it came from anyhow) and now index.php is called without problem.

As you can see onhttp://66.195.17.52/~funkpau/html/index.php, the link "Homepage" in "Hauptmenü" (="Mainmenue") leads tohttp://66.195.17.52/~funkpau/html/ -> which calls the index.html (!?) and returns an error (nevermind this error).
Question: Is it possible to link "Homepage" in "Mainmenue" to the index.php instead(http://66.195.17.52/~funkpau/html/index.php)?

I have a problem submitting my postings with my favourite multibrowser irider. After submission I always receive error which claims "no permission" even I am logged on (in internet explorer it is no problem). This happens even after I have done a refresh with F5 and can see all my user information like avatar ... am I the only one, or does everybody using multibrowser have this problem of loosing postings? I would be happy for hints.

O.k., this problem does not always occur, because this one was submittes allright.

Hi Eric, thanks for your infos.

Probably I will install Suse 9.2, but I am not sure yet because of a few applications which are supported only by red hat (red hat is closer to Oracle than suse?).

Is not Fedora a red hat distribution? Looking for info I found distinction between core 1 and core 3 (the later with some relation to xen, as you can see search anyfinder for oracle "red hat fedora core 3". I will be installing on a textbox (dual xeon with ncch-dl mobo). What are the pros and cons of fedora?

For anybody interested in installing Linux Suse 9.2 I post a link for download of iso file for DVD.

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.2/iso/

I installed XOOPS on windows allright (I used Saint Wamp, I would try XXAMP now for better postgresql support?), but now I want to install XOOPS on my first Linux box (XXAMP postgresql support for Linux only until now, not on windows XXAMP?).

So many questions?
Which Linux distribution shall I install?
-> I found a couple of interesting applications which are supported only on redhat
Which version shall I install (9.2 is newest available, better take older one for compatibility and better documentation?)
What software can I use for windows emulation (my best guess is wine)?
Which boot-manager can I use, when installing win XP in parallel and going for dual boot?
-> I still need the XP installation when programm is not runnable on wine

Being thankful for any hints until I come back with better questions ...

thanks for answering and info about Zend. I surfed a bit (please see links below) and found many pros for Zend, but dont want to spend about $300,- for my "getting-to-know-needs".

So I will be installing Eclipse with Yoxos (are there any other "ready-run-eclipse"?), just to be able to run plugins and projects which pop up around eclipse like mushrooms (main interest is eclipse B.I.R.T project).

For anybody who is interested I will post a couple of links (mostly refering to features of eclipse and zend ide), but my own interest is getting infos about "eclipse-BI-projects".

zend-studio
Zend Development Environment 4.0.0 beta + Zend Studio Serverl
Zend brings PHP to The Enterprise
trustudio - php and python ide bult on eclipse
-> interesting to compare zend 4.0 with this enhanced eclipse ide
NuSphere PhpED IDE - 3.3.3

Last but not least a short description of Eclipse and Zen:

Eclipse
Perhaps the most useful of tools available under the Linux platform, Eclipse is a framework for producing IDEs for whatever language or feature set is required. Written primarily by IBM in Java, Eclipse is a great tool for producing an IDE which does exactly what you need it to do. A plug-in is used to convert Eclipse into the required IDE, and plug-ins to match almost every task can be found easily on the Web. Eclipse is open source software running under the CPL licence.
Among the PHP and Python adaptations for the Eclipse framework are Xored TruStudio and PHPEclipse, open source projects which convert Eclipse into a powerful IDE for rapid production of Web site back ends.

PHPEd and Zend Studio
Two good commercial IDEs are NuSphere's PHPEd and Zend Technologies' Zend Studio. Both programs speed up the rate that you can program PHP, especially when you are not too sure of the functions available for a task. The programs boast a large number of functions, including integrated debuggers, function reference, CVS and FTP access, and project management. Neither program is open source, however, and they can be expensive when used with the other programs that each company produces, such as code optimizers and servers.
