There are points of view here that are NEVER going to be resolved or agreed upon through this thread discussion. To all of you who are so discontent with the way XOOPS is being run, I see you as having three choices;

1) Quit XOOPS and use another CMS.

2) If you want something done, get off your lazy butts and do it yourself instead of making demands on other peoples free time that are trying to do something.

3) Get over it and stop the whining. I can guarantee 99.99% of the XOOPS community think you are acting like spanners and wish you would just go away.

If David does end up leaving the XOOPS team, then that will make it three people who have made large contributions to the XOOPS community that I know of that have left as a direct result of the manner/attitude in which LB talks to people! When will it be enough!?! Attitudes such as LB and Damaster have been displaying in this thread are what is ripping this community apart, as NOBODY is going to want to contribute as an XOOPS team member as it seems like this makes them an automatic target for coping an earful of abuse by these people (for lack of a better word) in doing so!

This discussion does not need to be abusive, but almost every time LB gets involved that is inevitably how it ends up. This thread needs to change tune FAST or be CLOSED!!

Great, just wait for a response now. If you don't get one, and you can see that the person you sent the PM to has been online since you sent it, then try sending another one to another member.

So how are we supposed to help now?

You know what your strengths are. PM a member of the XOOPS team as ask if your skills are required. It's really not that hard...

LB, I don't disagree with everything you're saying, but I do disagree with the way you are saying it. Your making it sound like it is some big conspiracy that the XOOPS dev team are deliberately taking steps to keep users in the dark. I think you'll find that it is just a servere lack of helpers. If there were just 1 out of every 1000 members that would help out to the same level as the existing XOOPS team are now, then XOOPS would be in a much better position. Instead it is much closer to only 1 out of every 5000 that are stepping up to take on an official role.

I've had a very similar issue with the Mydownloads and Mylinks modules. For the past 2 years in a row when the new year has clicked over, for some strange reason these module decide to duplicate all the content. Have a read of this thread;

Hi Marc,

If you already have IIS on the machine, then that is by far the most logical first step. The biggest issue I see for you is getting all the XOOPS goodies you want running on PHP 5.1.1, and maybe even MySQL 5 (I haven't tested MySQL 5 at all though). I'm still running on PHP 4.3.x myself, but if you are absolutely certain you want to use bleeding edge then you probably need to be prepared to spend time in fixing code to get XOOPS and more so modules to a point where they function correctly.

You might also be interested in this article I wrote on performance tuning XOOPS on IIS where I was got increases of up to 1000%;

Performance Tuning XOOPS on IIS

It is based on PHP 4.3.11 though, so again if you are wanting something with performance at the cutting edge then there is nothing currently out their for Windows in the open source community. In this case I'd advise using WinEnabler from Zend which will cost you around $500.

Of course that is coming from extensive experience with IIS LB? IIS is a perfectly capable webserver. Not as well suited to shared hosting services as Apache, but ideal for intranet or dedicated environments. Been using it for years, and never had a problem.

The only copyright that can't be removed is the comments from the code itself. You do not visibly have to display copyright anywhere when using the GPL.

Xoops has its own simple banner system and I think there is a module or two floating around, although I have no idea if they are still being developed. Personally I would recommend PhpAdsNew as it is built from the ground up as an advertising server. I have written a guide for intergrating it into XOOPS here;

Come on, guys! You're not helping with these comments. The attitude that you're showing is pretty arrogant, meaning that if somebody has not the experience to figure out very quickly how to configure XOOPS and work with it, he shouldn't be here.

I know what you mean Mamba, but I don't think it is the fact this user is new that people are objecting to. I can't see any other kind of response coming from a post such mistik posted...
