You can use the smarty-function truncate inside the template like this:

<{$thesmartyvariable|truncate:30:"..."}>

This will shorten the text to 30 chars with three dots added at the end.

Media Show 1.0 wouldnt play the files it saw them but wouldnt play them. wierd no?

NO, this is not weird!! I've spent quite some time on making a multimedia player and there really weird things going on. Every maker of multimedia-players has its own vision how things should work. Example? For instance the values for auto-starting files differ. One player needs the value "1" the other the value "true".

There are dozens of filetypes, dozens of information for each file and so on. You can use different codecs when making clips, but if any other player does not have this codec installed then nothing will go.

But back to topic: gives us some samples of error messages when you use these modules. Otherwise this ends only in guessing.

So far, it works well for me using XOOPS 2.2, 2.2.1 & 2.2.2.

Good to know. Saves me some testing for the next version.

BTW I know now why abbey had problems creating categories. In version 0.92 I thought I would be nice if the admin-side of the module is based on templates. But if templates_c has no write-access (like in abbey's case) you won't get there.

Difficult to help you without any further information. Which modules did you try? And why did they not work?

smartmedia, debaser 0.92, etc.pp.

on which System: XOOPS-version, PHP-version?

One point for you! But in return:

You may have to check your permissions to create categories.

???

I did not know that you need permissions to create categories. I know you said "may". But this will take us nowhere. I heard about so many problems about my module, but not being unable to create CATEGORIES.

Without any debug-information I am not able to give any help...

Not creating categories has nothing to do with missing folders.

@abbey: please enable the various debug-modes and test the module again. Normally errors will be shown.

a) what is your XOOPS-Version?
b) what is your PHP-Version?

I must confess that this module is not tested with XOOPS 2.2.2 or PHP5.

did they use xmlrpc exploit ?

A good question! My hoster is currently looking through the log-files.

This hack-attack was a good motivation to get some things tidied.

Fastest resurrection ever! Hope so!

myxoops.org is on air again! I must confess that I was running 2.0.9.3 - SHAME ON ME! I DO NOT DESERVE TO RUN THE OFFICIAL GERMAN SUPPORT!!!

A lesson that will be learned!

3 hours for a backup is quite fast I think, you have to keep in mind that I was doing this at work! Thx to the great tools MySQL Administrator and Eclipse!

Unfortunately myxoops.org was hacked (along with macambrigde.com) by a vietnamese Hacker.

I am still searching for the backdoor. What he/they changed was adding two custom blocks, changed the admin password and email and deleted the primary key for the user-table.

Meanwhile I closed the site until I know how the intruder came into Xoops.

Sad day for me!

I guess I had the second face or even a sixth sense when I was starting my computer and visiting xoops.org. So I was quite close announcing the updates on the official german site.

It is not a bad thing that things are moving, even when the updates are coming very often.

What I would LIKE (not DEMAND) to see is, that the official support sites would be informed beforehand so that the local supporters have time to react quickly if there are important updates.

I fancy the idea that the local admins will be informed via sms if this would be possible. Just a dream I guess?
