Caching? I don't think so.
Those two tables are used when people connect to the site. That those two get corrupt may indicate, that your site was under attack. Check the Apache logs for unusual access.
However it may be coincidentally and has some disturbance or stress situation on the server as cause.

Which version are you updating?
And to which version? (2.3.3?)

For working local with a restored site, empty the cache, template_c and xoops_data (sub)folders (except index.html and *.txt) and also the sessions table in the database with phpMyAdmin. (Maybe also /xoops_lib/modules/protector/configs)

I don't think so, because the foreach part of your myalbum_categories.html should look like this:

NewBB/CBB is the one here on XOOPS.org and is very good. X-forum and NewBBex are less complicated and feature rich.
After installing modules, you have to set module group permissions to allow access, posting, etc by the various user groups.
If you use a language other than english, make sure you have the language files for the module. If not, copy the english ones to the created other language directory.
Activate also in the preferences the option for php debug, this will give additional info with error messages of the problem.
For chat (check also if your hoster allows it, because many don't like chat), there are some in the module repository and there is aChat, shoutbox, khat, webchat and tchat/flashchat

Did you try to get additional error messages with debug on (in preferences)?
If the module contains .htaccess files, they may contain instructions that your webserver don't like.
What version (XOOPS and module) are you using?

Upgrade to the latest version (2.90b2 = 2.88), because it seems these problems where already addressed there.

I don't know why you are asking him, AFAIK he is not the developer. He has only a site for XOOPS Cube with some translations and test possibilities.
If you read the texts on his site then you would know he stopped distributing the XoopsGallery:

/class/xoopsform/formdhtmltextarea.php contains a lot of
onmouseover='style.cursor="hand"
which should be
onmouseover='style.cursor="pointer"


This problem exists also in
/misc.php
/include/xoopscodes.php
the koivi editor
the textsanitizer
