Ok,

I have not had an answer to this post yet, I really like the look of newbb2, I have it installed on a site I am testing at the moment, for a new project.

As I said in my original post, my main site (using newbb) has some huge posts, and replying to a post means you have to scroll a long way down, so I want to move this area to the top of the page.

I was recommended to use newbb2, but I don't want to loose my forum content that I already have, is this possible?

I want everything that is in newbb2, but I need to keep all of the content that I have in my existing board, as well as my existing forums and categories, I guess it can be done, I just don't know how.

If someone can help me out here, I would be very grateful.

Thankyou

Dave

Any ideas at all?

Anyway, for now the new site is in testing, and so far I am pretty happy with it, I tried using multimenu before, but never really got very far, this feature combined with tiny content is allows you to make custom pages and custom navigation menus very easily, I am now looking at adding this feature to my other site, as the articles module I am using there is starting to get a little harder to manage now, as the articles I am using are becoming less linear, I think multimenu and tinycontent will be real useful there.

Anyway, back to my post, anyone got any tips on creating the extra fields I need, or what php files I need to edit.

I mean I can easily add fields to my database, that isn't a problem, and I guess I can look for the page that is called during registration, and I should think that with out 'too' much hastle I can just hack itup a bit to add the extra fields, but what about calling the info?

For example in the user profile, how would I add the extra info?

How would I make the extra info available only to the user them selves and the webmaster of the site?

I am surprised no one else has wanted to store this sort of information?

Thanks for any help

Dave

Hello.

I have been using XOOPS for a little time now, and so far I like it, (although I would like to speed my site up a bit.)

I want to build a new site, and after looking around, XOOPS looks as though its going to be the best for me (primarily because I can't bothered figuring out how to do something on a different CMS)

The new site will have a member signup, but this time I want to grab more information from the members.

So to the question, is there a hack or module that will replace the existing user registration, or do I need to modify it myself?

If I do need to modify it myself, can you give me some help figuring it out?

I want to grab probably the following info

house number/name
street
town/city
post code/zip code

telephone number
mobile number

I may want to look at making some of the fields into mandatory fields, would you know how to do this as well?

Thank you

Dave

Subject makes no sense, cant fit what I want in a small space...

When people reply to posts, is there a way to make the reply box appear at the top of the page, above what they are replying to, instead of below?

This is becoming pretty irritating when replying to LARGE posts.

Also with things like vbullitin and phpBB, you can reply from the bottom of a thread, a 'quick reply' or you can reply with quote or 'advanced reply' which loads a reply page similar to the one in Xoops, but the reply box is at the top of the page, and the ENTIRE thread is below.

Can I do this in Xoops?

Dave

You could always re send the activation key to all the members you that you require them to authenticate there email address.

You can do this by going to system menu>mail users and send the email to the registered users and include in the body of the message this

{X_UACTLINK}

hope that helps

This problem just popped up for me as well, no problem 2 days ago, problem today? Strange

Anyway, thanx for the great tip, my new members hopefully have their activation links just fine.

My host is fasthosts by the way, I would be interested to know if anyone else that gets this problem is with fasthosts - possibly something they have done??

Thanx again

Dave

This is more of a following question than an answer.

I think if I was in this situation I would back up my phpbb database (I am only interested in users at the minute) then rename the php_users table to xoops_users, then rename the fields in the table to match those of a standard xoops_user table.

Would this work?

I would then install my XOOPS CMS the standard way and then import the XOOPS table into the database (The table that I renamed from php_user)

I don't know how 'inter-dependent' the XOOPS database is, I have never had to go too deep into it, it works fine on the whole for me, so perhaps one of you uber-intelligent guys can let me know if it would work?

I would guess that the problems may come from trying to take the PHPbb forum posts into Xoops, I think it could be done in just about the same way, but I would guess that it would take a lot longer.

Not sure if this is just IP address, anonymizer seems to allow me to vote, but the votes are not updated on my site?

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help, I think I have a problem with my poll on my site.

I have traffic to my site, but I am not getting many new members.

I want to find out why, no one is saying anything in the forums, so I have placed a poll on the site, I have given unregistered users permission to vote (I think)

I tried to make 2 votes from my house, the first went through, the second will not go through, with a message that I have voted already.

I assumed this may be down to my cache or cookies, so I cleared everything and tried again - no luck - so I tried to do it from my Linux machine, and again it said I have already voted today.

I am wondering if this is because the site is going on my IP address OR is the site confused, has it assumed that 1 anonymous voter represents the opinion of all unregistered users?

I have emailed the guy that looks after a bit of the site for me to see if he can vote on the site without logging in, but I think he may be a bit busy as I have heard nothing from him.

Does anyone know if multiple anonymous voters can vote seperately? (on the same day)

Dave
