Thanks for your replys.

I should probably post this in a different forum so feel free to move it later, its with regards to XOOPS 2.0.8.

I tried installing the 2.0.7 - 2.0.8 patch after my host had advised me to do so, I run XOOPS 2.7.3 currently.

Anyway I downloaded the patch and installed the new files over the old ones there was also a folder called extra with login.php inside I wasnt too sure about that so I installed it anyway incase i needed it, I also noticed on dev.xoops it says no install script needed but there was a folder called install in the patch which i uploaded again i wasnt too sure so i thought i should upload it incase.

After uploading the files I went to my site and my news module wouldnt work(start module)so I logged in at user.php and went to admin section,It came up install is still in directory warning so i logged back out and deleted that from the server. after that I thought I should update the system module like you normally do when upgrading, but I think that was perhaps the wrong thing to do? I got a server configuration error and then admin went blank and it just kinda got worse.

Whenever I tried to get back into admin it kept coming up 'it appears this is the first time you have enterd the admin area' and when i clicked proceed admin.php was just blank.

Anyway my host is trying to fix my site as we speek but I have a bad feeling I have lost my site and all my content I worked hard on.

To roundup what i found out about 2.0.8 so far:

news1.1 doesnt appear to work
cdbase module doesnt appear to work
mylinks doesnt appear to work

On saying that I am no technical genious and I could have completely messed up when trying to install the patch.

If all goes wrong I wil try out the 2.0.8 beta fully or change host or wait for a public release of 2.0.8 which will work with php5.

Thanks.

Hi, my current host has installed php5 and my XOOPS site is no longer working and it looks like they are unwilling to revert to php 4.3.9...so looks like time to change hosts, here is what i would like.

1.UK based host with UK based phone support number.(servers dont have to be in the UK)

2.1gb space

3.30gb bandwidth/month

4.Moving of my current XOOPS site from old server to new server(willing to pay extra fee for this task)

5.cpanel with fantastico for installing XOOPS if No.4 doesnt work or XOOPS preinstalled by a tech staff(would also be willing to pay a small extra fee for this)

6.Good uptime and customer support/service is a must.

Thanks, anyhelp would be appreciated.

Looking to spend under £150.00 per year but would pay more depending on service.

I would most definatly reccomend XOOPS to you, at first I was a bit bewildered by it, but it took me know time at all to get my full site up and running with xoops, I dont know php or anything like that and I can get by fine with basic html(for custom blocks and stuff).

The forum that comes with Xoops, newBB is easy to set up and use and the news module is ideal for blogging to there are also blog modules available to.

There are tons of free thems available and they are all high qaulity and they are pretty easy to modify too, I sometimes modify the css for diffrent colors or mod the images a bit to suit my needs.

heres some links to free themes:
ww.7dana.com
www.xoopsit.net(tons of themes on there)
www.montisarts.com(excellent gamer styled themes but can be used for otehr type of sites to)

There is tons more links in the mylinks section.

And yes theres plenty of help here many people have helped me with my probs everyone is pretty friendly, good community, good help.

Enjoy Xoops, its an Awsome CMS.

<EMBED SRC="http://www.yoursite.com/theflashfile.swf" HEIGHT="height" WIDTH="width" </EMBED>

Hope this helps you out.

Hi, do you have news module as your start module or something else? Also be sure to check 'publish in home' or it wont show on the news page, If you have have no module selected as your start page then you will probably have to enable a block such as recent news to display links to your news articles on the top page.

Also check group permission settings good place to look if you cant see something on the page which should be there.

Hope this helps

Click add/edit links, you will then see add a main category and add a sub catagory, enter a name for a main category then click ADD, you can then add more catagorys or sub catagorys if you want.

Hi, I am making a website for my girlfriend and I or rather she has encountered a strange problem with the news module, I will explain exactly what I done , etc hopefully someone can help.

I made a seperate group for her so she could just edit certain modules as she doesnt know much about making websites and stuff, I made her own group so she can have admin rights to news, sections, polls because these are pretty easy things to post in/update. As far as I am aware her group permissions are fine I logged in with her ID and the admin menu shows just the modules she can post in, she has webmaster status.

She went to post a new news article(which she will use a blog type thing) and seemd to go fine however on the front page(start module is none, recent news block is activated) is shows no news or recent news block and when she or I go into news module in admin and click the link/story ID of the article it says selected story does not exist and it redirects to News Module which is blank, however when I post a news story(logging in as overall admin) it works fine.

Also when I clicked edit in the story she posted the story is there and article comes under the Heading 'Automated Articles' in admin, I have never seen this before.

I changed in preferences for allow new articles without admin intervention but its still the same.

I am using XOOPS 2.0.7 and News 1.1

I hope I explained this ok and I hope someone can help I am at a loss.

Thanks.

This is a really simple answer so I am probably way off the mark here, but I have done this myself before and it caused modules not to be recognised:

Sometimes when you download a module for example in the Brasil modules pack when you extract a module from that pack it comes in a folder named something like xooops2mod_name of module and inside this folder is a HTML folder and a DOCS folder go into HTML folder there will be a folder called MODULES inside that will be the actual module folder which you have to upload to XOOPS root dir/modules, if you upload the actual xoops2_mod folder then XOOPS wont recognise the module, I have done this a couple of times my self in error not realising the module folder was inside.

Anyway, if thats not the case then as far as I know the module should be recognised if the xoops_version.php file is there and all the otehr files are ok.

Yea, you gotta upload the section images into www.yoursite.com/modules/sections/images/

If you want to use images in the articles within sections then you need to upload them somewhere and insert them using HTML
<img src="http://www.yoursite.com/image.jpg" />
