nor do I know why the "Our goal is.." won't display correctly.

At the lower res, the page compresses horizontally and the menu block slides to the centre and overlaps the strapline. You're going to need to change the design a little to resolve that one.

If you are designing websites for a living, for the sake of your sanity I would draw some boundaries. I test sites in Netscape 6.2 and 7, IE 5.5 and 6 and Firefox, on both Mac and PC, plus Safari on the Mac, plus Lynx. Every year or two I drop an obsolete browser version from the list. We tell our clients this.

If the client insists that their site works perfectly on AOL, Opera, a cellphone, Netscape 3 or Web TV we'll do it... but at extra cost!

On Mac IE 5.1.7 (Mac OS 9.2) the site looks o.k. at 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768. The font sizes seem fine. The menu works, but there appears to be a 'bullet' in the menu list that isn't displaying properly? (you see a small 'missing image' icon).

In Netscape 6.2 (OS 9.2) the menu also works and the bullet error is not visible (but there's no bullet).

In both cases, viewed at 800 x 600 res, the menu centres itself but partially obscures the strapline 'Our Goal is..."

Can't check the site in OSX at present but I'll try and take a look later. In OSX, I would imagine the majority of Netscape users now generally use Firefox. IE is still used, but is no longer developed for the Mac. The Mac's own browser Safari however does need to be considered.

It is a pain to get drop-down menus to work cross-platform and cross browser. Minor changes to the CSS can make or break them, but you need a Mac to run proper tests.

A late Christmas present perhaps

Apologies bbchen, realised my post is off-topic. It was your comment about feeling 'lost' in the community. I agree roadmap is a great idea as long as users as well as developers can understand it.

Could we also have version-specific 'problem' report forums? E.g. the current uploader glitch is 2.0.9.x specific. Unless the poster remembers to mention the version they are using, it is very confusing when you search the forum trying to resolve an issue. You could 'prune' obsolete version forums periodically too.

Once a problem is resolved, IMHO it would be equally useful if XOOPS team created a 'locked' forum containing acknowledged bugs/issues and fixes. E.g.

2.0.9.1/2 - Can't upload avatar - [fix]
2.0.9.1/2 - Duplicate blocks - [fix]
2.0.9.1 - Security issue - [fix]

You could then tell people to look there first.

Went back to the Koivi test site today and code view now works fine. Had a couple of problems though.

I created a table (about 8 cells) but had to use 'quick add' as the table option fields were not visible in the 'add table' pop-up window. (Quick add is pretty cool though). Also, when selecting a cell and opening the foreground colour chart, I found half the chart was cut-off the right side of the screen. Finally, when I selected 'preview' the preview worked, but I got the following error message (the xxx's are mine):

Quote:
Notice [PHP]: Undefined variable: topicdisplay in file D:\xxx\xxx\xxx.com\public\testsite\modules\news\submit.php line 186

All on Firefox 1.0, Win 98, 800 x 600 res. This may not happen in XP or higher screen res. I have an old laptop in the kitchen and browse while I eat.

What is the xoopseditor?

Only HTMLArea works on PC and Mac (Firefox and IE on PC, Firefox in Mac OSX). I don't know if Koivi will work on a Mac, but to me it looks to be the best choice for XOOPS because it enables images to be used from the Image Manager. Koivi is however still in development and AFAIK doesn't automatically work with every module.

You *can* get SPAW editor module that (I believe) works for every XOOPS module with a textarea field, but you have to hack some code in each module.

Having a 'proper' wysiwyg editor built in to XOOPS is high on my wish list. My vote is for Koivi, however I agree with wammes that a search will reveal more on this issue.

Apparently, this will not be my job next year. Replaced sausages (hero) only to discover original ones were vegetarian (zero). Also, in case anyone searches forum for this in the future, regular cocktail stick too short for cheese, sausage and onion (perhaps needs an extension to work properly). Now have hastily built cheese and onion hedgehog. Alpha release. Out the door. Happy new year.
