wow a year later, just came across this post because I was looking to see if there was ever a resolution to the following issue sorry to bring up such an old issue..

"There is no functional difference between categories and subcategories."

Which keeps our spotlight from working the way we want it too.

--so it seems like it will never happen.

So, we have so many news articles, is it possible to imprt them to another module like focus or any other news module that will support the spotlight feature.

OR, being not afraid to get them hands dirty is there something we can do to modify the news module (1.44) so that the ol' hard and true spotlight picks up subcategories, beneath their primary ones?

ie: Selected spotlight topi is:
A
-sub a
sub b
B
Currently it would only rotate A without a and b,and only a,b if they were selected individually themselves.

(?!hmm did that make any sense?)
Well,
Thanks in advance.

~Sorry another late nite, last minute thought. But sure would love to get it going right.

Hi folks!

Thanks, yes XOOPS and the XOOPS community have been an inspiration from day 1. The general spirit, the exchange of ideas and passionate exchange of thought. We are gearing up for a re-launch, we've been using XOOPS for 3 years!

We thought we'd combine our passion for the performing arts
and utilize the great resource that XOOPS is. And we are always continually learning.

--Anyhow
Just wanted to add a bit more info. about the Theatre Port
logo contest.

I wanna say (though not set in stone) we are looking for something that is slick, smooth and cool. Ok yes, that’s very subjective isn’t it?
ie: Goin to the theatre is not a "stuffy" thing we want to promote it as the thing to do, I dunno; as dorked as this may sound, that it's cool, hip, fun etc to attend the theatre, and we support a lot of fringe theatre companies in town as well.

The logo need only contain TP (but please no toilet paper rolls! ) We can always spell out theatre port.Or you can have any variation you choose, with site name which actually is Theatreport. Or just have an image, we can always write right next to it..

As for a slogan, we dont really have one (that we could ever decide on) so dont worry about that.

Ok, I've dorked out enough, please if you have any questions feel free to contact us, all contact info can be found on our site, we have a thread going and there is a graphic on the front page you can click on to get there.

If you want to learn more about our site: just click on the port info link.

Thanks
Have a good day!
-yet another port volunteer

Basically it depends on the module.

You can also choose to custum make one but that not so necessary anymore.

But even easier is a module like:
Topic blocks

specifically here for news.
Every module has at least one Recent Block too.

thanks for the insight. Yes were thinking it might still be possible to receive spam as well. But I wonder if we remove that, drop it from the database all together.

We're looking into it. And if we find a decent solution we'll definately keep ya informed.

Hi ace, that seems like a reasonable solution.

However, my experience with IP banning is that you always wind up banning a range that was not intened, not the exact IP address. At least I recall this being a problem with earlier XOOPS versions, it may have been addressed by now.

What do you think?
If I remove all instances of trackback from the template will we we still get spam? (ie: will bots just find the appropiate file to do so?)

Thanks for any info,
I've always liked weBlog and its potential. (and we are going to make a nice style sheet and format it proper and use it once more...but this trackback issue has us concerned.

Hmm I guees I dont understand how trackback works.

I mean. If you disable, or remove it from templates, (the actual links) do you still get swamped with spam?

That is to say how do you get the spam?

I'd be happy to share all modified templates with the removal of physical links, but I am unclear if that will actually prevent it from happening.

Any idea?

well no doubt. I mean it may sound counter to what you want, but is it still a problem if only registered members can view your blog, and you have removed from template?

Just curious because thats the option we are considering...

Out of my grasp im afraid at the moment, will pass it on to other members of our team.

Anyone know if wordpress has the same multiuser function?
Otherwise Id say switch. But for a simple and good module weBlog would do just fine.

If we can just figure out a way to disable the trackback feature.

-more ont his later I suppose unless someone has any ideas.

Uh oh, had a feeling about this, Havent made this feature public yet on our site. And was curious about the potential problem.

But yes, rediculous we should be able to disable the trackback feature.

Will start looking into it..

First step would be to check t for comment instructions in the php scripts..

Since we haven't made ours 'public' yet we will experiment and get back to you.

It looks like some commenting out might work..maybe.
