Dear All,

I am using the Headlines module for about three weeks and I am having the following problem:

The module works as I can easily retrieve Yahoo feeds. However, when I try to do the same thing with BBC (rss URL:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss091.xml) and have MySQL debugging turned on, I get Failed to retrieve BBC feed:Array - the xml file is in the database though.

Has anybody encountered such behaviour? Could you please test the RSS link and give me advice as to where I might be going wrong?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks in advance.

George

Dear All,

I am a bit confused about the installation instructions in the respective document. It reads that if you install to a hosted remote server, you copy the contents of the html direcotry to the root folder where you have access, say public_html and then rename the folder to xoops. Once this is done, you should be able to access the site by typing www.yoursite.com/ as it says in the manual.

My question is that since it is the html folder we renamed to xoops, should the address not be www.yoursite.com/xoops?
Why is it different from the local host?

Dear All,

I have set up the Headlines module to receive content from BBC, UK and set the headlines so that they appear on the main page and on the Headlines block. So far, so good - however when I place the mouse over one of the headlines I get a link tohttp://www.soi.city.ac.uk/~cj571/xoops/modules/xoopsheadline/index.php?id=6#http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/click/rss/0.91/public/-/1/hi/uk/4323549.stm, instead ofhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/go/click/rss/0.91/public/-/1/hi/uk/4323549.stm.

Is this normal behaviour? I want only to get a link to the story itself, not inlcuding my site.

Could somebody throw some light into that please?

Thanks in advance for your help.

George

That's right, I have done all that but I still get the same behaviour. The changed code under xoopsHeadline_index.html reads as follows:

<h4 style="text-align:left;"><{$lang_headlines}></h4>
<div style='padding: 1px; text-align: left;'>
<ul style="list-style-image:url(images/rss.gif);">
<!-- start site loop -->
<{foreach item=site from=$feed_sites}>
<li>&nbsp;<a href="<{$site.name}>"></a></li>
<{/foreach}>
<!-- end site loop -->
</ul>
</div>

<{$headline}>

Am I going badly wrong somewhere?

I have done all that, but it still refuses to change the template...Just to double-check for the Headlines module, you need to change xoops_headline.index.html, don't you?

Basically I get as the hyperlink for the news, www.mysite.com/xoops/modules/index.php?id=6#www.bbc.co.uk/...

Dear All,

I am trying to use the Headlines module and I noticed that I get a URL of the form www.mysite.com/xoopshealine?id=1#bbc.co.uk

I edited the template so that to omit the mysite.com part but there is no save option (just a view option)...

I changed the file on the server, it has the right permisisons but still when I try to view the files through template manager it will still give me the same template.

Any ideas as to how I might overcome that?

Thanks,
George

I just had a look at the database and it looks like the individual updates are been saved there but, for some reason not displayed. Visibility is set to true for the module and I can see the updates for XOOPS. Any suggestions as to where I might be going wrong?

Thanks,
George

That's true, apologies for that...I am using XOOPS version 2.0 with the Headlines module that comes with it (Version 1.0).

The web server is running Apache (release 10331100 and Apache API version 19990320 as output by phpinfo)and PHP is version 4.

Am I doing something wrong?

Could somebody share the entries for the configuration of Headlines that he knows they work?

Thanks for your help.

George

Dear All,

I just installed and started experimenting with XOOPS yesterday, so please accept my apologies if what I am going to ask is a silly question.

I have installed the Headlines module and I am trying to use it for BBC. I visitedhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/rss/3223484.stm, which gives information on the topics that BBC is providing RSS files for but all of them seem to be ending in XML. I have also tried BBC Greek which gave me an rdf file (http://www.bbc.co.uk/greek/index.rdf) to type in the RDF URL field and nothing is happening...

Could anybody please advice me on where I might be going wrong? Do I need to install any additional software?

Please help!

Thanks in advance,
George
