Yeah I can concur with that.

I had to disable my web stats javascript today. Once I disable it my page loaded quickly.

Also - I forgot to copy back my .htaccess to enable gzip compression.

FYI - although you specify compression on in XOOPS control panel, it is still off. You need to specify compression on in a .htaccess file.

Oh give me a break. One of the Xaraya groupies comes over (first post) and talks smack and you get upset because it's tossed back?

If you took offense - get over it - or maybe fix/update the demo section so when the next peep hops over and shoots off - he has a better footing to stand on. Or just indicate the demo site is not reflective of Xaraya but just put up as a novel item.

Personally, I know nothing of Xaraya other than the first poster's smack submission. A very quick hop over provided errors.... I Laughed, copied, pasted and forgot about it.

In all fairness, it says its beta... I personally have absolutely no interest in it. I'm more concerned with stability -proven releases such as Xoops. If Xaraya grows up, I'll be the first to give it a looksie and see if it's a better mouse trap.

For goodness sakes think twice before you write your reply. If you had a problem with Xaraya, be man enough about it and post it at their forum. Just last week I had someone went to our largest newspaper because they found a small insignificant problem on my company website. The person did not for one second think the first thing they should do is contact the webmaster. Nope - its more satisfying letting the national newspaper print it out for everyone to read.

There will always be someone coming here telling us their CMS is better than ours and so forth.

The thing that will show our community's maturity is not biting the bait and flinging mud back at them.

Their developers work just as hard as ours. They don't get paid either. They, as well as our developers would expect at least the common courtesy of being told of a bug first hand.

1. where do I change the sql database password in XOOPS if I change the sql database password so XOOPS can connect to it?

Look inside mainfile.php in the XOOPS root directory. BTW don't look at the mainfile.php from the ZIP install file. Get the mainfile.php that was created on the webserver after the installation.

2. How do I change the font color of the forum title eg. "General XOOPS.org forums"?

I believe it is in the theme.css file in the theme directory.

3. What wiki module should I use?

don't use this myself. Can't help you there.

No worries mate.

Only the yanks would put the month before the day.

And drive on the wrong side of the road...

And call their rugby, football

In the Language/English folder, edit global.php

Find the time format setting and replace it with this

Quote:

define("_DATESTRING","j/n/Y G:i:s");
define("_MEDIUMDATESTRING","j/n/Y G:i");
define("_SHORTDATESTRING","j/n/Y");

Have you had a look in the Download -> Themes sections?

I found and downloaded a base theme that had the framework setup I require then I edited the theme.html file. If you know HTML it is so darn simple.

Once it is done, you copied the whole kaboodle into XOOPS's themes subdirectory. Then in the control panel change the theme to the one you uploaded (based on the sub-folder/directory name).

If you are after a really professional design and you have some spare loot, try 7dana.com. They offer free and customised (paid) themes. Well worth the look.

Or you clone the default template - then make the cloned template the default, and edit the news template.

That's what I do mostly.

I agree with him. We should really do a site of the month award at XOOPS for top design, best originality, best graphics etc etc. Winner get an special XOOPERS avatar for their signature (hehehe)

Now that's a super idea if I may say so myself. We could call it the XOOPS Idol contest. Who wants to be Simon?

I was wondering

wouldn't the Soapbox module work here?

You can create the SoapBox Categories. And you can allow people to submit acticles to each categories, and comments can be posted too.

After all Soapbox is meant for reviews (or posting articles).
