Thanks for that Draven - it looks to be exactly what I'm looking for!

If I can get hold of your modified version it would be great!

Hi all!

I did post a similar question in a previous post, but it didn't really seem to go anywhere.

I'm basically looking for a hack to the XOOPS banner module, that will allow the administrator to offer CPC, as opposed to CPM advertising on the site. At the moment, banner ads can be restricted by the number of page impressions but there is no option for an advertiser to pay for a set number of click throughs.

If anybody could have a look at this, or perhaps point me in the right direction, I'd be most greatful!

Cheers!

If I understand you correctly, NewBB supports this by default. You will notice on this site when you go into the forums section, that "topics" (or threads) have a column titled "poster". The name in this column is the user who started the thread.

Hi Bergrar,

By "weblogs" I assume you mean the length of the news items that appear on the frontpage? If this is the case, when you create a new article you will notice that there are two input boxes (if you create it from the admin interface.) The first input box contains the text that will appear on the article summary (and hence the frontpage) while the second box contains the rest of the text that will be displayed when your user clicks on "read more".

As for making a block visible to a non-registered user: in the admin interface click on groups and edit the "anonymous" group. You will see a number of checkboxes that determine which blocks and modules are / are not visible to an anonymous user. Simply select the blocks and modules you want an un-registered user to have access to and update the preferences.

I have found from experience that some of these little "niggles" actually lie with your hosting package other than Xoops. For example, I used to experience that I had to log in four or five times before XOOPS actually recognised that I was logged in. Once I changed hosts however, this problem disappeared although I was using exactly the same version of Xoops.

Not necessarily what is happening here, but it is a thought...

The problem definately stems from the theme.html file, as I can also see some layout problems in the main page, which are translated and highlighted in the forums. I hazard to guess that if you include a centre block in the front page, you will experience very similar problems.

Saying exactly what you've done wrong is a little difficult without viewing the theme.html source on it's own though, but it does look like the columns are handled badly which is causing the extra width. For example, on the forums it looks as though there is a left column defined somewhere with no content, creating the black space on the left hand side.

My first suggestion would be to have a look at all the <td> commands, and double check what they all do...

I agree - you need to find a more competent host.

I have dealt with two hosts in the past that I've had the open_basedir restriction problems with, and one of them was offering XOOPS as an installed package through Fantastico! It took me about a week of constant emails to convince them to change their server settings, often receiving no reply to these emails.

It was only after this I discovered my host was a one man band running a reseller account he really had no control over, or knowledge of.

The moral of the story is to research your host before signing up. I now demand a detailed company profile and guarantees in writing before I'll commit to a host - it's important you know who you're dealing with when your site can reach 2Gig bandwidth on a daily basis.

A guide to the variables and their uses within modules would be a great help. Finding them within the code and editing them isn't the major problem... it's just making sure we're editing the right bits that takes up time!

It's a well put together site - nice and clean. Text is easy to read with good use of colour contrast. Well done.

Very erm... patriotic by the way!
