Multiple instances of the same module ?

Hey all,

Would it be possible to run multiple instances of the same module ?
If the answer is yes (which in some roundabout way i think it is) would it require me to edit most of the files already in the module prior to installing it or would I be alright in just renaming the folder in which it resides?
I am thinking about running the sections module twice but am not totally decided on the matter as yet.

All the best Tom.

Hey,

Sorry for taking so long in sending a reply.
Right I have had to have a good look round (as you wanted me to outline exactly what I wanted in a block) and have found what I was looking for.
There is currently a module available for XOOPS called 'Service Status' which is a manually controlled module so that you can tell the user if something is fine, being maintained, or out of order.
I have a similar idea but as apposed to it being manually controlled it is fully automated. Also as apposed to it being based on areas of your site it is more aimed at obtaining the service level of certain system processes and other servers from around the world.
For example:
Service HTTP on my site = green (automatic due to info retrieval)
Service http on XOOPS servers = green (automatic by means of a very simple pinging protocal)

This can also be done with a list of other things such as MySql database systems, SMTP, POP3, ftp etc etc the list is endless as long as you have the correct port to assign it to.
Now I know what your going to say, lol, what I am wanting to do will involve a load of scripting and may take some time to get right. Yes I will agree, but just to make things a little easier I have got a working script already. The script currently is 1 simple php file and all that it requires is that a simply html code is placed within the page you are wishing to show the desired status bar.
Is there anyone (that is able to create modules) that is willing and possibly up for a challenge, in helping me create something that will plug into XOOPS as apposed to being a stand alone php file ?
If so then please drop me a reply and I will outline what my hopes are (functionalities).

All the best Tom.

Hey,

Cheers for the quick reply. I will go have a look at these modules and see what happens.
Ps are there any manuals available about creating your own blocks for certain purposes (although I fear that this would require the use of modules in order to make the blocks work)

All the best Tom.

Hi Guys,

Before I start, I am certain that one day I will be able to feed all this advise bck to other and new xoopsters.
But for now I still have a lot to learn.

I am wanting to know about the refresh rate of the users online block. It would appear that as default it refreshes at an incredibly slow rate. I do not have no caching turned on for any of my modules. If possible I would like to increase the refresh rate so that the data shown is more accurate more quickly. Also I found that when I visit my site and log in, it shows me twice, once as the member and then again as guest. If I am logged into aol at the same time I show 3 times. And just to answer your first question on this matter, I only ever have 1 window open with my site in.

Thanks in advance.

All the best Tom.

Hey Guys,
After iddling about a little and a couple of installs and removals of xoops, I have finally done it. And without changing my dns server I might add.
Instead of pointing the domain name to my ip i simply forwarded the domain to the url. To avoid XOOPS from misfunctioning however I had to use the original virtual path. I got around this by an option in my dns which allows me to cloack the original url.
So it now permanently displays www.mysite.co.uk
I spose the only problem is when people manually refresh the page it goes back to the homepage. This does not happen however when new posts, articles etc are added. So I spose in time people will learn to live with it lol.

All the best Tom.

Hey all,
Ok I have but a simple request. I need some information on whether I can or can not manipulate the URL address bar.
I have used my isp's space to host XOOPS (as apposed to my home server) and set it up so that it may work.
However the downside to this is that you have to look at a totally disgusting url address in the address bar.
Currently it reads as follows;

http://cgi.myusername.myprovider.com

I am wanting to manipulate this to show;

http://www.mydomainname.co.uk

The thing I have to bear inmind here is that when you click on a link within the XOOPS framework it will go tohttp://cgi.username.provider.com but for the viewer replace this with the domain name without affecting the linking etc.
I know I dont make too much sense. But if anyone out there should know how i can achieve this then please please let me know.

All the best Tom.

SMD,

Already done . I live by the terms that if i see something i need/want then go grab it while you got the chance. And so far in life it has worked for me.
I just need to wait for bender to reply. But just for safe measure I will include it below.

@ Bender

In the latest WF-Channel version there appears to be a file missing.
The file is
uploader.php
and it is missing out of
Class
I have had a good look thru and it isnt in any of the other folders either.
I am assuming that the installation procedure is still the same as specified in the readme.txt file ? If not could you please advise me on any new installation procedures.

All the best Tom

Rowdie,

Ok cheers. I feel that at some stage I will become completely and utterly annoying lol. I hope not but I fear the worst.
I have just one more question (looking at the time) It says in the description for WF-Channel that it will only work and run with XOOPS v2.0.5 and no other. Has this been updated do you know or not ? Or is this another mistake or bluff ?
I am running the latest one (v2.0.9.1)
More likely than not it will work (I somehow have no doubt, but hey you got to ask to be safe aint you lol)

Cheers again and
All the best TOM

CMD,

I dont klnow if you got my last pm but I somehow managed to overlook the fact that WF-sections etc is created and based on unix. Unfortunately for me I run a windows machine and cannot make no use of it.
Unless of course it will run and work on a windows based machine and the unix bit was a mistake lol.

All the best Tom.

Hey again,

Ok I have looked at the FAQ section and also at the WS one. I am a little concerned that I have to create a new page for every html page I wish to display. Not only would this make it a little more complex for me but also It would not be suitable with regards to interactivity with users. Ideally I would like admins to be able to create pages to over the net without having to access my server other than via a browser.
Also I am still unsure about the menu system. If I use the ws version would any page I make be automatically Displayed inside of the main menu link panel or would I have to try and create some sort of navigation system of my own ?

All the best Tom.
