XOOPS is in a bit of disarray right now but there are many people working to bring some accounability and organization into play. At times there have been "Marketing" teams here at XOOPS with differing levels of participation.

If the proposal to get the foundation layed for establishing teams is succesful I am sure that your efforts will be greatly appreciated. There is a lot of work to do in the area that you speak of.

That is a somewhat misleading trend. This deals with shipments of Linux and often times servers are shipped with no OS because the end-user will install Linux themselves. How would anyone accurately track that? This was pointed out in the article.

We use Linux extensively in our IT infrastructure, including our critical business systems, and we install Linux ourselves on HP servers that are delivered without an OS.

In addition, I feel the real threat to Microsoft is not in the free webserver market but the office suite. If Openoffice can gain some traction I think you'll see momentum in many other areas that may really allow open source to take hold in the classroom and enterprise.

In the article that was linked in this one titled "Is Open Source Dying" there was this comment - "And most people now expect Microsoft to get its stamp of approval for OOXML, opening its doors to even the most open-source-friendly states." This did not happen and has potentially left the door open for Open Office!

I agree with MadFish. He has taken a lead roll in making that happen as well as a dozen or so others with the desire to see XOOPS succeed.

There are some issues, that for better or worse, exist today within the community/foundation that cannot be undone in a day. I am participating in the discussion in order to provide my professional and personal experiences in a way that is hopefully useful.

Hey kc0maz,

I am sure that all of those needing help appreciate your hard work. Thanks for helping out.

No problem on not contacting me. Its probably better that you were focused on your work anyhow.

Take Care,

Crip,

I do not see what the issue is with using XOOPSinfo.org. The foundation owns it, it is configured very nicely and frankly it should be viewed as an asset of the community. It may well be that with the proper organization and a funtional community xoopsinfo.org could be forums.xoops.org in the near future?

The foundation is here to support the community.

Darcy,

Googledocs is real easy to use, has revision history, spreadsheet, word processor and can be easily published for public viewing.

All you need to do to participate is go to www.gmail.com, create an account and you're good to go....Provided that's the path it all goes down. I happen to like the idea as well but we'll need to get consensus on this as well, phew!

I think we all prefer to use XOOPS.

Agreed, although my pain in the ASS is usually CPanel. For this reason I have started using hurricane Electric -http://www.he.net. You only get a shell account and nothing else...No Cpanel, no plesk just SSH thank god!

Anyway, I have noticed some funky things that happen with imagemajik and extgallery and RMSoft gallery where they don't handle the conversion of large files. With extgallery in particular I get similar permissions problems.

I found a utility that does batch resizing in Ubuntu that has just been a serious lifesaver. I do this before uploading my photos. If you use Ubuntu check this out for batch resizing photos -

Damaster, it's you who create negativeness..

And unfortunately, you're contributing to it as well by your comments. Please focus on the task at hand, be professional, and move all personal fights to private emails.

We don't have to agree on everything, but calling people names doesn't really belong here. And I don't really care who started it - it's time to move on...

i call it damage limitation.

why would i not voice my concerns in public when a person (Damaster) has in the past (and maybe still continuing to do so) has/is accessing other peoples user accounts and has used them in the past to post malicious content and grief by pretending to be the person who's account he was using because of illegally obtained passwords? please tell me why that is being negative, that same dishonest person has just been nominated to be on a XOOPS committee by yourself and other people.

and you expect me to be quiet?

Based on the facts being true I don't think there is anyway a reasonable group of people would accept somebody with those credentials on a council that is working to make this project functional.

Having said that, I do believe he gets satisfaction out of your responses.
