Multiple websites on one database

Good evening,
I have access to only one MySQL database on my server, but I would like to implement more than one XOOPS website. How would I go about doing this?

I realize there is a table prefix in the XOOPS configuration, but I want to make sure that the first initialization of XOOPS doesn't set up using the standard xoops_ prefix because that would obviously trash the vital data for my current website.

Are there any special steps involved in implementing more than one XOOPS driven website on the same SQL database and if so, can someone please outline these steps for me?

Thanks for all your help and a great product.

I have a real hard time getting view permissions for Anonymouse users on the XF Guestbook module. I have set the radio button to allow Anonymous users to sign, but when I try to access the module as an anonymous user I get the message "You do not have permission to access this module". What am I doing wrong?

Question: The Module Repository module is really neat in the way it organizes data. Is it available for download anywhere? I do like the myDownloads module but the setup of the repository is much better.

Thanks for your help,

Question: There are a bunch of default modules that come with the XOOPS package. These include newbb, news, xoopspartners, mylinks, etc. Are updates to these modules shipped together with the XOOPS package or must I go in search for updates to those myself? If so, can someone tell me where to find these updates and what the latest versions are?

Welcome pages and user profiles

Good morning,
I have made two welcome pages, one for anonymous users and one for logged in users. It works like a charm, except sometimes when a user logs in, he is dropped into his user profile screen rather that the welcome page. Why is that? I would like the user to always see the welcome screen first after logging on. Most of the time it works great, but once every so often, he is dropped into the user profile screen.

How can I always guarantee that the welcome screen is the first screen that shows?

Respectfully,

DonXoop,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, you're absolutely right. I am trying to disallow/avoid direct file calls. I have made no changes to the module (and it must be a module problem, because I tried to access private images on websites using the same module, and had no problem, even without logging in).

Dropping the index.html file that you mentions has no effect because I have already disabled directory browsing, so all they'll see then is an access denied message. The problem is; if you know the filename and folder of the image file, simply inputing that path in the URL bar will show the image regardless of wether you are logged in or not. I did report this on the forum for the myAlbum-p module that I am using, but so far has no replies. I am sure there must be something I am missing, because I can't see how this can't be left so open. All the other modules I currently use doesn't have security mechanisms that can be so easily circumvented.

Let me ask this; what's the best way for an image module to store images so that they can't be accessed. I tried to .htaccess protect the photos directory, but then I get that pesky little password box even if the user is logged in.

Just had a thought.... is it possible to use blobs in the MySQL database? i.e. store all the pictures directly in the database instead of as files on disk? Has anyone had any experience with this and how would I go about converting the PHP code to do something like this?

Good evening,
Question: I am using a photo album module and have a few private family pictures in there that I want to protect. So I make the album module only readable by family members. So far so good. Now, when I point my browser to the directory and the filename of the image file it displays on the screen regardles wether or not they are logged on. I disabled directory browsing on my webserver so that makes it a little bit more secure. I even tried to .htaccess protect the directory where the images were stored, but the problem then is that the system asks for a password when displaying the photos, even if the user is logged into xoops.

Is there any way I can protect the image files without it affecting xoops? My photo album is eventually not the only module I want to protect from outside interference. The predictability of the filenames in the myAlbum-p module is alarming also. It creates the images with numeric names starting at 1 and increasing by one for every image. So if you know the upload directory it's ridiculously easy to download all the images. Any ideas what I could do?

Thanks alot Bleekk. I didn't realize it was that simple. That option must have reset itself somehow. In any event, that took care of the problem and my right side blocks are displaying as they should again.

Have a great day,
Ken.

Good evening,
I have never had problems with disappearing blocks before, but all of a sudden the blocks on the right side are disappearing. I have been working on my page and testing it for 2 weeks now and never had that problem, but now after setting some privacy and user options they all of a sudden disappear. They show fine on the front page (like when you first open the page), but when you click on any link to modules such as content pages, photo album, etc. the right side blocks disappear. What is wrong and how can I fix it?

Thanks for any help,
Ken.
