You make an excellent point. It should be a relatively simple matter to test for mySQL with a simple bit of code. The current installation PHP script is quite good, probably only needs to be extended to include this condition.

Re: Blank Page - xoops are you guys going to respond to these?

Hello rrettich -

As Herko mentioned above...(just noticed...my apologies for being redunant)

Would you/Could you send some additional detail regarding your installation environment such as OS, etc, etc..?

It could be an access problem..i.e. execution permissions, not permitted to view the files at all, .htaccess file, etc, etc (who knows sometimes?)... if you install it locally (via files, instead of HTTP)via root on a Unix system and are testing via an external browser as an non-privileged user...sometimes that can trip you up.

As you can see, I altered my signature to reflect my XOOPS server environment. (I was asking a lot of questions at the time, it saved a lot of typing)

In my past, I tried to place XOOPS immediately into my web taxonomy, i.e. no applications under <Apache_root>, etc, etc... no dice & some frustration (understatment)

To get my insanity to return, I moved my XOOPS directory to be immediately under the Apache/htdocs...bingo..with sanity restored, I moved it around to where I wanted the XOOPS directory to reside. Of course, I did have to make some adjustments to the Apache httpd.conf file, but who doesn't look forward to doing that. (despite being a server geek, I just wanted to see XOOPS work first before I got all nerdy on server infrastructure issues)

5. I have read WIKI (7.5. How to show HTML pages inside XOOPS) about including other HTML pages within the XOOPS template and have settled on Tinycontent BUT how do you include an external HTML or PHP page in the body (I am not trying to pinch anyone else's content - for info I have a Mailman discussion list set up for the site and want it to appear within the same layout, as I could not find a mailing list/Mailman hack for use within the XOOPs environment).

Regarding point #5, I encountered a similar situation in a previous thread which may give you some ideas...
A Thread which May be Useful regarding iframes in Xoops...

I know that the wiki page was mentioned above but just for completeness, I have included the URL below :
Xoops Wiki Page regarding static HTML content

Let us know how that technique works in the long haul... ie. the DreamWeaver for static content creation/maintenance in junction with a custom block.

Rock on!

Re: Need help desperately

I concur with dukehen as well.

I was involved in a thread which touched upon the issue you are wrestling with right now. As I gather more references, I will post them in this note.

One of many ...How to post static HTML content in Xoops?

The above thread may be of some use to you. As previously mentioned, you can create a custom block via the Adminstration module and edit your new custom block to make it visible, position it on your front page (center-middle perhaps), then you can decide how to plunk your HTML code into the block. You could cut 'n' paste the code & "whack it in" or you could add reference to another webpage on your server. That way you could easily maintain this page in Dreamweaver without having to pop in&out of Xoops. I am certain that some of the Elite Xoopsters (Xooperati, perhaps? ) have developed some nice tips, tricks and hints exactly for this type of thing.

This is a nice general topic/FAQ item.

Xoops Wiki Page regarding static HTML content (I found it...yippee)

Best Wishes,

Re: Looking For A FAQ Module

I am looking forward to this new module. The current FAQ module is quite adequate and SmartFAQ is very comprehensive. I am hoping and searching for something in between.

As mentioned earlier, the WF-FAQ module sounds good, but I have not been able to find the module for download and testing.

(yes, I did look...but Search and I do not see eye to eye sometimes. perhaps, the module is available for download on another site besides www.xoops.org or dev.xoops.org)

WF-FAQ dev.xoops.org Link
SmartFAQ dev.xoops.org Link

Best of Luck,

Re: Searchservers.com Need Review

Ditto...I also like the theme as well. At first, I didn't think I would (typically do not like earth tones for a website) but it grew on me.

Tabbed Nav bar w/submenus...very nice... definitely something I will investigate for my sites...if and when I have the time.

Again...the default XOOPS FAQ module is adequate, but I think you may want to "tweak it up" in the future especially considering the technical business you are in. There is a new module, SmartFAQ, in beta/development that looks very promising which I am testing myself. (However, I do find myself wishing for an FAQ module between FAQ and SmartFAQ.) But you may want to keep an eye on SmartFAQ development.

Cheers & Best of Luck,

Re: ZoneAlarm - i cant post news articles/make changes to my preferences

Hi Ho codecraig --

I experience very similar behavior due to my Symantec Firewall which I have to disable if I wish to post a reply/comment/news item to a XOOPS site.

I will be in "code mode" today and may have a chance to crack open the XOOPS source to ferret out a root cause and maybe a workaround. (Unless, the more likely event that one of the XOOPS Gurus posts the answer before I even fire up CVS. hint, hint ... )

Re: Other FAQ Modules for Xoops 2.0.6 ?

Thanks, Mithrandir.. Will do. Time to roll up the proverbial sleeves, and give it a go.

The standard FAQ is quite reasonable just looking for formatting extras, i.e. more nesting/abstraction at the category level.

Cheers,
