Is there a module that will send text to peoples cell phones?

I have a group of people that I want to be able to send a update, or to notify them of a change. I would like it to go to their cell phone while we are traveling.

Does Xoops have such an addon yet?

First of all you have to find a SMS service company, read their API and start writing your code.
I wrote a sms hack for xoops 2.0.16 before and it really works.

there is a module for sms, but using it isnt enough to send sms to cell phones, you need to buy bulk sms from any company providing this kind of business, in this case, the module stores the cell number as a mailing list, while sending sms is by using the service of the mobile company.

Sending SMS would cost you money. OK if it is a paid for service perhaps, but otherwise it would be better to choose a module with an RSS feed and encourage your users to subscribe to a feed aggregator like Yahoo!. They can then get their feeds on their mobile with Yahoo! Mobile. There are several others that do the same thing.

Have you already selected a cell phone operator or service company, that will distribute the SMS messages?
