Xoops Norway reopened
XOOPS Norway, the Website providing support for Norwegian users of XOOPS has been reopened with an updated look and improved structure.
Rune and
earplane did a great job bringing the Website up to date, and supporting Norwegian users in the past.
Not everybody speaks English well enough to take advantage of our main site here, therefore it is so important to have these local support sites. And since it is never enough to thank all the people who support XOOPS users in their native languages, we would like to use this opportunity to do just that - to Rune, Earplane, and all the other XOOPS community members who support XOOPS users around the world - a BIG THANK YOU!!!!
The list of
XOOPS local support Websites is long, but if you're missing your native language among them, please let us know.
And if you would like to start a new XOOPS support site, please let us know as well - we are always happy to see XOOPS being represented in new countries.

XOOPS Receives Award in Brazil

Not many people know that in December 2007 XOOPS received the
2007 INFO Award in the CMS category.
Congratulations to all XOOPS developers in Brazil!!!!
Quote:
SÃO PAULO - In the area of corporate software, three products are highlighted in the INFO 2007 Awards: Netweaver by SAP; Delphi for PHP by Borland, and XOOPS by the XOOPS [community].
An application for business intelligence and application server, Netweaver won 46% of the votes of readers of the INFO Business Intelligence category. According to Gartner, SAP, the developer of Netweaver, is a world leader in CRM (25.7% of the market), ERP (27% of the market) and in supply chain, with 19.7% of the market.
The integrated development environment for PHP Delphi by Borland, is another product winner. With 53% of the readers voting for it in the Development category. The software is the combination of two names that strong existed in the market. It combines the working methods of Delphi, one of tools favorite of programmers, with PHP, the leading language for developing dynamic websites.
Delphi for PHP provides for the creation of applications for the web with features and functions similar to what it does on the desktop. Jose Rubens Tocci, president of Borland for Latin America, states when Delphi for PHP was launched this year it won instant success in Brasil and its acceptance surprised even the team's local subsidiary.
Among the dozens of CMS (content management systems) available on the market, one of the highlights is the XOOPS, an open source program produced by the XOOPS [community]. The readers of INFO recognized this, devoting 37% of the votes to the product in the CMS category.
According to Gilberto Galdino of XOOPS Brasil, one of the groups of developing the tool in Brazil, the XOOPS community in Brasil is the second largest world (behind only the French) and has made major contribution in product development.

Xoops FAQ section and unpublished questions
This is a polite notice to all xoopsers who have had their FAQs unpublished or deleted in the moderation que.
Many of you are asking questions that have already been asked and answered in the FAQ section. In order to keep the FAQs precise and easy to navigate we must prune similar entries and deny similar questions that repeat content.
Please don't be offended if your question is deleted or left unanswered. It's probably better for you to use the forums for Q&As that relate to specific technical questions.
We use the FAQ section for Q&As that are considered useful for the general user and not every question is relevant.
Also, please DO NOT submit questions with answers like 'please help me' these will be automatically deleted.
Thank-you all for your contributions, especially those that add meaningful, well thought out answers. This is an invaluable resource, thanks to your input.

The SmartFactory and XOOPS.org Firefox Search Plugins

Fellow XOOPSers ! I know some of you already did this in the past for previous version of Firefox but I thought I could share this anyway with you again for the latest
Firefox 2.0 release ! I have created a Firefox search engine plugin for
The SmartFactory,
FRXOOPS.org and another one for
XOOPS.org. In summary, this means that you would be able, at any time, to search either one of these sites using Firefox search box ! These plugins uses the
Open Search description format for search plugins. Plugins that use the OpenSearch description syntax are compatible with IE 7 and Firefox. Because of this, they are now the recommended format for use on the web.

XOOPS Survey for marketing research project
XOOPS started a marketing research project with a group of students from the HES School of Economics and Business. One of project's goals is to find out what the community and visitors to the XOOPS site think of the product in general, and how XOOPS can be improved. For this purpose a survey has been created.
Both XOOPS and the students in the project group count on your assistance in this research, which should lead to a better XOOPS.
We hope you will take some time to complete this survey, which you can find at
http://www.createsurvey.com/c/31498-ygF1kD/Extra information:
Rating question with 1 - 5 only should be interpreted as 1 being the lowest rating and 5 the highest.
Some questions have an optional character but were created as mandatory, when you wish not to answer them just put "N/A" as an answer or something similar.

XOOPS For Dummies and MyPage Mirrored
As of recent, the XOOPS for Dummies guide was pulled offline. In the interest of maintaining this valuable resource to the community, the XOOPS for dummies documentation has been temporarily mirrored at
MyWebResource.
Link:
http://mywebresource.com/xfd/The permanent home of the XOOPS for Dummies guide has yet to be determined, but I will make sure that the guide remains available until the permanent home is decided.
Also, the MyPage module download was removed at the same time as the XOOPS for Dummies documentation. Personally, I have found this to be one of the most versatile and handy little modules around. In the interest of keeping this module available, I've recreated the module with a couple small changes. You can now download the PageWrap module (renamed from MyPage) at
MyWebResource as well.
Link:
PageWrap Module Download PagePlease Note: The XOOPS for Dummies guide and the MyPage module are the original work of
JackJ and I take
NO credit for his work. He has made a tremendous contribution to this community with these two resources and should be thanked appropriately. I have found these resources to be indispensable and am eternally grateful for them. Thank you JackJ!
The sole reason I've chosen to mirror JackJ's work is to ensure that this resource will
always be available to those who need it.
Best Regards,

maximising your Google Adsense revenue with Xoops. This article explores some basic principles of what is required to monetize your website, as well some methods for implementing Google Adsense into your Xoops site that I have done myself with some very pleasing results. Since implementing my Google Adsense optimisations at the start of last month, I have seen my CTR, eCPM and most importantly my revenue increase by around 300%! I hope by writing this article I will provide users of the Xoops CMS with some basic ideas to try to get Google Ads working for them.

Implementing PhpAdsNew into your Xoops site
IT Headquarters is proud to present a comprehensive guide to implementing PhpAdsNew into your Xoops site. PhpAdsNew is one of, if not THE most popular ad management server on the web today and is very deserving of being on your short-list. For a long time the question of how to get a more sophisticated ad management system into Xoops has been asked, and if you do a search for 'PhpAdsNew' in the forums you will get well over 100 results spanning back to 2002 (it's a question I've even asked myself). By writing this article I hope to help answer this question, and give people a resource that can have them up and going at a basic level in just a few minutes.
This guide is aimed toward those with some experience with both Xoops and PhpAdsNew, and covers the implementation of PhpAdsNew into Xoops at the theme, template and custom block level. With this guide you'll have all the building blocks you need to be able to start planning for any implementation of PhpAdsNew into Xoops, big or small. I hope you enjoy it, and that it is of some value to you.

http://www.xoops.no went down some time ago. Too bad, I thought, so I adopted the domain and set up a minimal support site.
The new version is not thought to be a major traffic site, it'll only be a place for downloading updated Norwegian language files for the core and the most important modules.
I've thought about making the site bilingual (Norwegian and English), but for now I'm concentrating on making fresh translations. If you've got some updated Norwegian language files lying around, feel free to contibute!

Software Patents: Defend The Future
On Wednesday 6th July (less than 20 hours from now) the European Parliament will have its last chance to prevent the implementation of the software patents directive. This directive is a USA style patents system on software that if passed will result in European software developers not owning what they write. To be successful 367 of the 732 members must be present and vote for the right amendments, such as the
Buzek-Rocard-Duff amendments.
If you are a European citizen, you MUST act now, this is NOT a drill, and the corporations that have been pushing this directive for the last few years now have unprecedented support and are literally just hours away from having the entire European software industry by the neck. INCLUDING OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS!Get involved NOW, as if this directive passes it will be next to impossible to get any of it reversed!! Every single vote counts!!

XOOPS @ FOSDEM 2005 wants you!
The FOSDEM Team put out a call for Presence at the next FOSDEM meeting that will be held
feb 26-28 2005 in
Brussels, Belgium. Dries of the Drupal Developers Team suggested we'd collaborate on this and get a CMS Developer Room and Booth there. I was thinking that this could be a good place to organise a real XOOPS Development meeting? To meet other XOOPSers and talk about development issues and futures.
Depending on the programme and possibilities, there'd be no costs for this event, travel and lodging expenses are yours.
Mithrandir will be there, as will I (herko), Skalpa, Bunny, StudioC and Jan304 have also expressed interest in coming,
but I'd like to see more people there! If more people will come, we can make a programme of sorts and get something cool worked out

So, let us know you're coming!

Best XOOPS Month Ever
October has turned out to be the best month ever for XOOPS - statistically.
On SourceForge.net, the statistics show more than 1½ million page views in October alone and more than 100,000 downloads.
Since the xoops.org facelift, we have had a steady 50,000+ daily pageviews. Since October 23rd, we have been in the top-10 of active projects and we are the 15th most active project in all of October.
This is a great recognition of the work done here on xoops.org - both the development of XOOPS and the support and guidance found in the forums.
A big thank you goes out to everyone in the XOOPS community
Keep XOOPS'ing

Oracle patents content management systems
Patent 6,745,238 was awarded to Oracle in June; it is titled "self service system for web site publishing." "The web site system permits a site administrator to construct the overall structure, design and style of the web site. This allows for a comprehensive design as well as a common look and feel for the web site. The web site system permits content for the web site to originate from multiple content contributors. The publication of content is controlled by content owners. This permits assignment of content control to those persons familiar with the content." This patent was filed in March, 2000; prior art should, one would think, be relatively easy to find. Refer to

Using XOOPS in the Religious Community
This article was inspired by
this thread in the forums. It caused me to gather longstanding thoughts about ministry and CMS's, particularly XOOPS.
As a result of that forum thread, I gave some thought to the use of Xoops in religious communities. Here in Dallas, where religion and tech go hand in hand (which, I suppose, has it’s own issues), it seems that every church has a web site. Indeed, they are ubiquitous. Most of them go unused, have stale content, and reflect little of the interactivity that we experience here at xoops.

Xoops for Dummies e-book documentation
I have published Xoops documentation in the form of an e-book called XoopsForDummies. This e-book is in exe format and compatible with Windows. I am working on a pdf format version.
I also have a version online at
http://www.macambridge.com/dummiesThe aim is to give Xoops beginners a good all round understanding of Xoops. I have a lot more I wish to add, but one can go on and on editing and never publish anything..

So I thought I would release this at the stage it is.
The next version should hopefully have more in depth info and tutorials on specific modules etc.
Windows Exe e-book format
HereI realize the Xoops team are working on their own official version, but this will perhaps be useful until then, I hope so anyway.
Edit: HTML version available at my site

Colorado Breast Cancer License Plates
Did you know that every three minutes a new case of breast cancer is diagnosed in the United States? Did you know that breast cancer claims a life every 13 minutes? Has breast cancer affected you, a family member, friend or co-worker? If it hasn't yet, it may.
A breast cancer awareness license plate has been submitted to the State of Colorado. This license plate will help thousands each day consider the part they can play to help eliminate this terrible disease.

End of Life for Red Hat 9.0
I'm posting this important news item to let users know that Red Hat Linux 9 distribution will reach its end-of-life for errata maintenance on April 30, 2004. This means that as of May 1, 2004 they will not be producing new security, bugfix, or enhancement updates for this product.
What affect this will have on the XOOPS community at large remains to be seen but it is worth closer investigation if you run enterprise solutions or mission critical sites in combination with XOOPS.
It is recommended that XOOPS users who run and maintain the Red Hat Linux 9.0 distibution look into migrating to the new Enterprise Linux or Fedora Project.
More information about migration choices can be found at:
http://www.redhat.com/solutions/migration/rhl/ Good Luck and Happy Xoopsing!

Announcing the launch of NukeRank.com. The premier website ranking service.
The premier website ranking service for CMS Webmasters, NukeRank.com was created so that webmasters who use Content Management System software, such as XOOPS, phpNuke, phpWebsite, and others, could have a place to go to create a mini-web of links for their websites. This helps to boost link popularity for the member site as well as provide an unbiased neutral atmosphere for friendly competition.
Unlike many other top-ranking sites, we will never use annoying POPUP windows or list-break's that present irrelevant advertising. It is our goal to provide a clean, surfer-friendly, SPAM and POPUP FREE site to the nuke community. NukeRank will always be a free service to its members however we may choose to provide friendly banner advertising in the headers and footers to help offset the costs of the server lease.
We at NukeRank promise to provide an unbiased voting venue where any member site has the potential to rank itself at the top! We think a fair playing field will offer everyone the most fun!
All we ask is in return is for webmasters to list themselves fairly, with integrity and honor, and bring to the NukeRank site the same professionalism that they would bring to their own websites. If everyone does this NukeRank.com can and will be a wonderful asset to the webmasters who are creating the future of the net with content management systems!
So stop by
http://www.nukerank.com today and join us for our public setup phase. Official website ranking will start on November 14th!

Software Patents in Europe
For the last few years the European Patent Office (EPO) has, contrary to the letter and spirit of the existing law, granted more than 30000 patents on computer-implemented rules of organisation and calculation (programs for computers). Now Europe's patent movement is pressing to consolidate this practise by writing a new law. Europe's programmers and citizens are facing considerable risks.

Independent Review of XOOPS 2.0.1

RC2 Release!
The long waiting is over, and we are finally releasing RC2.
This version fixes some security problems that existed in RC1. Also, numerous bugs that have been reported are fixed, and we've added some new features that i'm sure you've already found on this site. For more detail, please see CHANGES.txt included in the package.
We think RC2 is far more stable and secure than RC1, therefore we recommend you all upgrade to RC2 if you are using RC1 on your site. When upgrading, please backup your database first using phpMyAdimn or mysqldump utility through telnet.
In the next release, whether it will be RC3 or final version, we will be working more on modules that we were unable to do in RC2, for example, integrating groups permission system with more specific levels in each module, newsletter module, new sections module, etc.
Download RC2 from

Site Update
As you can see(?) we have updated our site to the current development version RC1.6.
You may not see much difference from RC1.0, but we have been mostly working on security enhancements, bug fixes, and more code reusability for future develpment.
One of the new features we have introduced is XoopsBB codes, which will let users compose html enabled posts without actually using html tags. Yes, it is the same with what other forum scripts out there have, but with more usability, and is used not only in the forums but in comments, and news posting sections as well.
We've killed most of the bugs we've been receiving, but we are human, there may/should be some more of them we've missed or have been unexpectedly created by adding new features. Also there are still some we are working on to be fixed in RC2. If you find more bugs on this site, please report them at our
bug reports section and we will work for that as soon as possible and get ready for the release of RC2.
thanks
Onokazu

Ask Michelle, Weekly Report - RC2 Update and Themes, Changelog as well
Hello All, Here's the latest update from the Xoops Team. We are now debugging RC 1.3. If everything goes well, we may be releasing RC2 by this weekend. At which point we'll institute a code freeze. Then you module developers can "go to town" and start creating cool modules for the community. If you module devs want to create fun modules, I would look at our current poll and at the very least start developing those modules (although the team is already at work on those, I don't know what the eta is for them). SUPPORT SITES Since so many people want to be support sites, we're thinking about holding a contest for Support Sites. I'd appreciate any feedback from the community and support site folks on the best way of going about doing this.

Installation Problem
The most of the problems we receive are due to database password checking in our install script and in our core main file. This seems to be a problem for those who do not set DB passwords on a local database server.
We are aware of this bug, and are working for a new install script. But we recommend a database password be set as a good habit even when you are installing on your local server.

XOOPS RC1 !
Download Now! With the release of Xoops RC1, the Xoops team is pleased to announce the creation of a brand new Content Management System. This system was originally based off of PHPNuke 4.4.1 and MyPHPNuke 1.8.5. About 70 - 80 percent of the code has been totally rewritten from the ground up. We use object-oriented PHP throughout the whole package, thus the name XOOPS. For the upcoming final version, we are now working on XHTML1.0 validation, support for other databases namely PostgreSQL, and more enhanced modules. Our goal with Xoops is to create a system that will offer ease of use module developers and a full out of the box feature package for the end user. We spent sometime researching other CMS sites to see what some of the most requested modules and features are and have tried to implement them in this one package.
