New Tutorials added to XOOPS Documentation

Last year we've started to standardize on GitBook as our delivery mechanism for XOOPS Documentation (see here)

Resized Image

Today I've added couple of new Tutorials: xLanguage and NewBB. They are not yet finalized and are still "work in progress", but because of this it gives the XOOPS Community the opportunity to get involved and help with improving our documentation, which we know is badly needed!

Please note that ALL of the XOOPS books are hosted on GitHub in the XOOPS Documentation repository, and therefore they all can be "forked", improved by you, and your modifications can be then submitted back to the original for inclusion. This is exactly the same process as with using GitHub as a Version Control for source code

The beauty of it is that you can learn and practice how to use GitHub, and at the same time help XOOPS to improve its documentation, especially since for writing documentation there is no programming expertise needed, but only the familiarity with the module. You can also start using the particular module and write the documentation as you learn how to use it.

The advantage of this approach is very clear: the XOOPS developers have limited amount of time, and they can:

1) spend it on debugging and improving existing modules, and developing new ones,
2) or they can spend it on writing tutorials.

It would be truly fantastic if those XOOPS users who don't have programming skills, could help us with documentation!

UHQ GeoLocate v0.96 released!

Resized Image

It's been another couple of years since the module has been updated. There are a few tweaks in here that now set the minimum version to XOOPS 2.5.7.

Functionally, this should be ready for a production implementation. There are some more administrative pieces I've got in my to-do list before I give it the big 1.0.

Direct downloads are here.

Also, this project can be found on GitHub here.

From the changelog:

====[ 0.96 -- 2015-06-16 ]====

Code Changes
* Modified directory structure to really fit in GitHub. (Mamba)
* IPInfoDB v2 APIs are depreciated and have been removed as options. Update scripts will change this accordingly.
* Help section utilizes new help structure for 2.5.7+
* Update script uses language localization in admin.php,
* Update script now produces verbose notes for updates to v0.96.

Fixes
* Removed redundant file check in update script.

Notes
* Dev environment is now XOOPS 2.5.7.1

====[ 0.95 -- Not Released ]====

Fixes
* Fixed a couple rendering issues which would see an error condition.
* Sub-branch adjusting to quirks in XOOPS 2.6.0 Alpha 2.

I'm very happy to announce that xoopstastic.com is now open! Xoopstastic.com is a premium resources centre. Currently, the site is in the early stage, so only the section of themes is active, but gradually I'll include another sections for modules, plugins and others. Also, in near future, I plan to open the site for those developers and designers that wish to distribute their work (free or commercial) trough a unified system. Site Details The website is bulding using the next components: - XOOPS 2.5.7.1 - Professional Works - QuickPages - xThemes - Common Utilities - bXpress - Advanced Forms - Ayah - Lightbox - Gravatar - eJunkie integrator - WowThemes! All these components has been integrated to provide the needed functionality. Also, almost all these components are freely available, with exception of eJunkie integrator and WowThemes, both developed specially for xoopstastic.com.

Goffy joins the German-speaking XOOPS Team

It's nice to see a new energy in the German-speaking XOOPS community, which recently added a new team member, Goffy, to its Admin team:

Resized Image

Goffy has been using XOOPS since 2004, and got into more serious development since 2010. He is author and contributor to several modules, incl. the excellent xNewsletter.

Bleekk, another member of the team, who we all know from his cool theme designs for XOOPS, is working on a new theme for the XOOPS German-speaking community, and the preview looks excellent (I've seen it and I loved it!!!! )

We are very happy to see the re-energized team, and wish Goffy and the whole German-speaking community much success and fun with XOOPS!

Viva XOOPS!

bXpress: a lightweight forum for XOOPS

Some of you might be already aware of bXpress, a module to create a forum section in XOOPS, with the peculiarity of being very light and easy to use. Panel de Control Well, today's news is that, for some time now, I have been testing it in Xoops México, and so far the results have been satisfactory. Therefore I have decided to publish the version 1.2 Beta.

Module Features

From the beginning, when I published the first version of bXpress, it was always clear to me that the module should focus on simplicity and ease of use to provide a real alternative to existing options. So, this basic feature —lightness to its simplicity— has remained unchanged. Partial list of features:
  • A lightweight Forum
  • Amazing simplicity and ease of use
  • Organization of forums in categories
  • Assigning permissions for user groups
  • Supports image (or icon) representative of each forum
  • Supports file upload
  • Supports Short URL
  • Supports annoucements that can be configured to be deployed in various places on the forum.
  • Includes a reporting tool for users
  • Assigned by forum moderators
  • Now supports posts likes for each entry New
  • All templates use Bootstrap 3
  • Includes more functional, adaptable and easily configurable blocks (preferably through the Common Utilities block manager)
Portada del Módulo

Requirements

bXpress have the same basic requirements that other modules developed with Common Utilities:
Warning: this version of bXpress is in beta state. If you want to use note all that that implies. Although so far in Xoops México has worked very well, could lead to errors undetected so far. If you want to check the operation of the module, I invite you to visit the Xoops México forum and leave a message. Download bXpress 1.2 Beta

Beortho.com with new theme based on Ethernial

A new theme, based on Ethernial has been created for beortho.com by Eduardo Cortés. The new theme includes full integration with Formulize, a module designed for forms creation and reports on the web. Resized Image
Another relevant feature of this new site, is a new Landing Page for QuickPages that is used as home page. This landing page has two different layouts: one for anonymous users and another for registered users. The biggest challenge for this project was the integration with formulize, because this module has all presetation code (HTML) hard coded in PHP files, however the results are satisfactory. In words of François, Webmaster of beortho.com:
I had a big project: to redesign my website with some particular needs, like changing the UX for an awesome module called Formulize. For that job I didn’t only need a web designer, I needed also experience in php and javascript. Because I’ve already worked 2 years ago with Eduardo (bitcer0), I knew what he can do with rmcommon, and how he changed my UX with xoops. One month later he has built a beautiful design (as always) and he gaves a powerful new way to use this module, without hardcoding. That’s just unbelievable. Thank you, really.

— François.
Webmaster of eorthodontie.com

Used modules: - Common Utilities - xThemes - QuickPages - Formulize You can visit this web site here. Also you can view the item in my portfolio.
