Xoops Top Sites, Submit Your Xoops Site

Hey everyone at Xoops.org,

Ive created a top sites site forsites Made with xoops. I thought it would be a cool idea to have everyones xoops site in one directory, but be able to vote for each site. The site is finished feature wise, but its actual look and buttons aren't the final design. But any way i hope that everyone will submit there site and we will see what happens. Also im going to turn the top sites script into a xoops module.

Organisation and Projects of Xoops TEAM Design

This team in close collaboration with the other teams of Xoops, occupies the party “Design”. Composed regular members in workload daily newspapers, they also have (each one in its field) the management of Working Groups on the various projects of the team.

The current report (difficulties of personalization in a professional touch, absence of “design standards”) revealed the need for re-examining the writing “design” of the core, this task is not so important that we could think it for a team, even of reduced size, motivated and collaborators (between its members but also with other "Xoops Team").

This team has a work important to realize, we must take the aforementioned like a multitude of projects and set up management and the means to obtain convincing and fast results.
These Task Groups must appeal and be made up of volunteers of the various Xoops communities according to the projects to realize. They has there for all the temporary participation and qualification levels (indeed even two files to correct in certain projects, in fact already two of realising!).

Thus a Team for you, by you!

XOOPS and Formulize at FSOSS Conference 2007

If you're in the Toronto area October 25 and 26, don't miss the Free Software and Open Source Symposium (FSOSS) at York University. Julian Egelstaff will be giving a two hour workshop on building custom applications with XOOPS and Formulize, 10am on the 25th.

FSOSS is now entering it's sixth year, and has become a major event, this year featuring such notable speakers as:

Bob Young, co-founder of RedHat and founder of Lulu.com
Marcus Bornfreund, co-director of Creative Commons, Canada
Marcel Gagné, author and Linux Journal columnist
Plus gurus and luminaries from a ton of hot tech companies and projects, including: Nokia, OpenOffice, Mozilla, Facebook, IBM, Bryght and even that old start up, Microsoft

Also, the Smartfactory will be in attendance, including xoops.org's very own Marcan. Come and show your support for the XOOPS community, listen to some amazing people, and learn a few tricks along the way! Spaces in the Formulize workshop are limited though, so register today.

First German book on XOOPS published!

We proudly announce: The first German book on XOOPS is out and available by now.

On more than 360 pages, the reader learns everything he needs to start with XOOPS. After a detailed description of the installation process, the author describes the individual concepts and components of this free CMS.
The reader learns how to deal with blocks, modules and themes. Lots of examples show how to pimp one's XOOPS by little means. For the expansion of the XOOPS site, the author recommends the German XOOPS-StarterModulesPack. The individual modules of this package are also described in detail.

"XOOPS kompakt" is intended for the XOOPS beginner, but also advanced users will take profit out of the many tips and background information. e.g. on the MySQL tables or on problem solution.

While still under development, the book has been supervised by the German myXOOPS.org team. A book supporting web site has been set up (http://www.xoops-buch.de), where the readers find more information, e.g. modules and German language packs translated by the author, and where they can share their experiences with the author and other readers and users.

The author, Autor Helmut F. Reibold, aka karim and markesh on xoops.org, is working as a freelance journalist and has published already several books on OpenSource topics.

Article Management System (AMS) 2.42 RC1 Released !

NovaSmart Technology proudly announce Article Management System (AMS) 2.41 RC1.

This release already gone through 3 weeks alpha testing by our internal staff and considered stable in our controlled environment. This RC1 will be renamed as FINAL after 2 weeks from now if there is no new / critical bugs reported.

What Is AMS

AMS is a highly modified version of the News 1.2 for Xoops, and adds a huge amount of features to give the webmasters a lot more control over their content while still maintaining an easy to understand and use interface. AMS is highly scalable, and is geared towards performance, and as such is well suited to large article repositories that attract high amounts of users.

Features

Koivi WYSIWYG editor integration : Your choice of using the default Xoops editor or Koivi editor selectable via AMS preferences. When using koivi editor also has a separate area for the article description as well as the main area for putting your article, so there is no need for use of the [extend] tag anymore.
NOTE: You MUST install Koivi editor separately before this feature can be used. you can download Koivi from here

Advanced Spotlight management : Choose your AMS spotlight block layout from three different template layouts, and add unlimited spotlight blocks with the option to display article mini stats including total articles, total article reads and total article comments. The all new spotlight block administration area allows you to configure exactly how and where to display your AMS spotlight item. From here you can add new spotlight items, selecting the latest article, the latest article in a topic, a specific article, or use the custom setting to display an image or banner using straight HTML code. You can also set things such as what image to display, wether to use an auto or manual teaser, how many characters the auto teaser should display, what text a manual teaser should contain, whether to display the spotlight item in the spotlight block or not, and item weighting where the lowest weighted item is treated as the main spotlight item.

Complete migration and upgrade script : This script enables you to migrate all content, permissions and comments from all presently released version of the News module. It also enables you to upgrade from AMS 2.2.

View by topic revamped : The view by topic view has undergone a huge overhaul and now presents itself with much more emphasis on navigation via topic and sub-topic.

New breadcrumb navigation system viewable in the topic and article views for easier browsing.

Topics Manager : Topics manager now has a topic weighting system so you can set the listing order when using the view by topic mode.

Article image selection : You can now select to display the user avatar in addition to the topic or no image when viewing an article.

Aphex Themes on IE

After a hard work over the whole weekend, Aphex Themes has opened this morning for visitors that run older versions IE of browser than IE7. With this, theme has suffered more modifications such as using images for block's titles, also notable is that we don't use any js or htc for making png transparent for older browsers.
The optimization for older IE was done purely for the challenge as i gathered more and more users browse using Firefox

.Minor things remained to be done but they can be done with the opened site. Well enough said

2 plugins smarty for Xoops against spambots

xoEmail: Converts email for a simple protection against spambots.
With this plugin you can modify the address email with value of replacements which you will have configured.

Quote:

You can also add new value of replacements which will enable you to transform for example the .fr into [your value].

xoEmailImage : Converts email into captcha image for a simple protection against spambots.

This plugin uses the GD library, if this one is not installed, it’s the plugin smarty xoEmail which will take over.

You can configure the creation of the image by modifying the values of the file of configuration.

New site for scout group

Finally finished: A site for a scout-group based on XOOPS 2.2.

Several news clones, custom programed blocks, not that really 'clean' programmed but effective enough to provide a site where multiple scouts & leaders can post news about activities without having to worry about the front page, since news 'teasers' are auto-generated into a three colum lay-outed front page.

I also made a custom theme, supporting separate sub-pages for each age-group (beaver, cubsouts, scouts, rovers, etc.)

Only in Dutch (sorry), but check it out because comments are very welcome.
