I have recently installed the who's online module to my website. As soon as installed and generated it said there was 10 users online !! I looked at the IP addresses of the users and 8 of them were from the same computer I was on. One was from a laptop I has also used but was now offline. There was also one for myself who was logged in. can you advise why this happens with who's online and if it is a bug or not?

Regards

Not a bug, the who's online block does not work too well, the session takes a little while to time out.

I noticed this on my forum too, people get a little confused, because they log out and are still online according to the indication on the forum.
Is it not possible to pass this information on to for instance the 'online block' when someone logs off?

When someone logs off they should become a Guest streight away. It's only when people don't log out that they will stay in the who's online box till the session times out.

Just to add, if they are staying there after logging out, make sure you don't have caching setup for the who's online block.

I don't use cache not on the forum and not on the online block, but still both display wrong?
Session time is not so long on my site, I noticed this when I posted a long post, session time was over, so I had to post again.

Is there a place where I can set this session time?

ha ha very funny

Something weird just happened....
I went to my home page and it still said 14 guests...
Then i logged onto the site and bam!! right back down to 1 guest and one member (being me) !

All I can think is that it takes a while for it to clear even when no cache is chosen.

Ah well you can't have everything can you

I think I will just have to live with it ....

Interesting... I have noticed that on my site when people are actually logged in and are on the site it doesnt actually show them online (as in the green icon below there username in the forum) it only ever seems to show me as online.

Highest amount of guests I have had is 31!!!
