To NewBB or CBB?

When creating a new site from scratch, are people being advised to upgrade NewBB2 to CBB seing as CBB has taken hold of the batton for NewBB2?

For current sites, are people able to switch from NewBB2 to CBB?

Does CBB have anything that NewBB2 doesn't?

(I've read the info relating to CBB in the module repo and it suggests that primarily it's taken over from NewBB2 but doesn't give much more info that that?)

Just found this which illudes to what I was asking.

I'd still like to know what exactly CBB has that NewBB2 doesn't. The general opinion in the thread was that NewBB2 is well established and bug free whereas CBB is still being developed. So what does CBB have that would make it worhtwhile to switch (other than the continued development opf it whereas no more for NewBB2)?

CBB is nothing different but bug-more-free

I understand caution if you were planning an upgrade, but from a user's perspective, CBB has some significant improvements.

The 'View new posts since last visit' feature means there's no need to miss important posts as they scroll off the 'recent posts' block. If you don't visit the forums for a while, with one click you can see every new post that was added while you were away.

Plus if you are trying to direct someone to another post, you can copy and paste a direct link to it, which is invaluable.

CBB gets my vote.
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.

Hi,

I've read some posts/articles indicating that NewBB2 runs significantly slower than NewBB1, especially when there is moderate to high traffic visiting the forum.

I was wondering if CBB has addressed this issue? Does CBB run faster or more efficiently than NewBB2?

Also, is CBB debugged enough to run on a full production site?

CBB carrys on the development from Newbb2 - so it could be said that it is more debugged than Newbb2

Some of those features look pretty nifty, certainly from a users perspective. And yes, I have noticed NewBB2 is quite slow - certianly a lot more than NewBB although that could be due to the many new features?

So it would seem that the general rule of thumb is perhaps :

1) If a new production site, install CBB straight away
2) If an already established site, stick with NewBB2 if already installed.

I converted a site last night from newbb 1 ->> cbb1.14 - and this worked pretty painlessly (except for not remembering to delete and regenerate templates... which caused a few grey hair moments! ) ... it's not so hard to do.

Will XOOPS 2.2 include CBB, NewBB2, NewBB1, or provide us with options?

I'm wondering if there will be any X2.2 upgrade problems if I upgrade to CBB before upgrading to XOOPS 2.2.
