Hello, I'm getting ready to implement my first XOOPS site and I know how important it is to start with a good, stable version... So, what would that be? 2.0.10, or maybe 2.1

Also I'm prepared to download the .zip onto my Windows machine first, unzip it, then FTP everything to my PHP host.

Finally, I'm wondering why someone would download the tar.gz version?

thanks

2.0.10 is the latest stable version.

On Linux, .tar.gz is more common than .zip. In some cases, you can extract a .tar.gz directly on the server, which is much faster, and more reliable, than uploading a large number of individual files.

I prefer downloading .tar.gz even on Windows, since it's usually much smaller than the .zip.

also just to point it out before the question is asked

7zip - is a good all round program for most if not all compaction programs.

http://www.7-zip.org/

or winrar

or winzip

or zip.

pretty much in that order of expense.
