The new site looks cool all!!

Notice you have the newbb2 forum all good!!

While you where offline my host illusionfxnet decided to update there php to version 5

This cause major problems right across the board with many people sites going down completely

So many of us wrote in on their forum and they had to go back to php4

As many of us would have had to exstensive reprograming to get our sites to work

After they reset everything to php4 they did a poll on their forum if we would all like php5 by january the 2nd

Most said yes, so it looks like my host is upgrading to php5 as will many people's

At the moment XOOPS didnt run on php5 there was a parse error on object.php line 528 expecting T_STRING not T_CLONE

So i changed that and it worked till i ran a php debug to fix other errors, then whole site went down

So my question after all of that is:

Will XOOPS likely to be ready for php5 by jan 2nd??

Other wise I will be in a mess??

That took ages to submit the post like 30-40 seconds on a 600+ broadband connection

Plus when i tried to submit this same post in fast post

It came back with you are not autherised to this forum and didnt post this thread

So i am posting it on a reply instead

This is the reason i resorted back to the original newbb on my site

I thought you said you were going to wait till you installed it on the main XOOPS site???

we are dealing with some scaleability issues with some of the new modules. I have been keeping an almost constant watch on the server load to identify these issues. While we are working on them, you can expect fluctuating site performance.

You could try moving hosts

My sites run with webandnet aka EasyHosting

They provide a complete LAMP +Xoops package. Domain transfers are reasonably priced as well.

Just to say, I have nothing to do with webandnet. They just host my sites. And they do have a free hosting package available.

Re: When will xoops be ready for php5??

Regarding PHP5 compatibility.

We have a modified, experimental, test-version - called XOOPS 2.0.8 (but don't mind that - it was just me making a lot of confusion there). It is based on XOOPS 2.0.7.1 with a great deal of changes to conform to PHP5.

The more people testing this, the better. It is available in this public thread on dev.xoops.org

Personally I have found it to run fine - except when I want to install certain modules, namely Team and MyDownloads. This crashes the webserver and only half of the module is installed.

I have no idea, why this is, so the more people trying this, the better.

My own webserver, tested with PHP5, are actually two WinXP machines with the latest XAMPP (I think) - same problem on both, but XOOPS itself runs smoothly.

I've installed XOOPS 2.0.8 on 2 different servers, both running PHP 5.0.2. On both servers, I can't seem to properly install some of the core modules. In each case, it tells me the module was already installed. I uninstall, and reinstall, same message. If I try to update, something odd happens. After submitting, the browser seems to try and submit, but then it fails before the process even gets the chance to load the next page... it stays on the update module page. The modules also do not show up in the list of module icons in the left column.

Outside the admin area, sometimes the modules shows up in the nav, sometimes it doesn't. Some of the module do not respond at all when clicked, browser does the same thing as above, tries to follow the link, but it fails before it can even loead the link.

It does this for the following modules:
News
Links
Downloads
Forum

Has this happened with anyone else? Thanks.

I just got a news letter from my webspace hosts and they are upgrading their server to php 5.0.2 by the end of the month

I need to know, is it worth upgrading to XOOPS 2.0.8?

If not then my site, that I (and you great guys in the forum), have worked hard on for the last 6 months is DOOMED!!!

k a bit mellow dramtic but gets the point across
