Does anyone know of a good British Hosting Company that is affordable for non-profit organisations?

We tried a company called eUKhost but that just went down hill from day 1.

That sounds like me with eBoundMedia.com...but I never really made it to day one since they never set up the account, and instead took my money and deleted my support ticket requests.

Have you tried searching onhttp://www.hostsearch.com ?

Oddly enough I have free hosting at a site called believe it or not...britishhost...also they seem to be fairly dependable with absolutely no pop ups. Try their forums at www.britishhost.co.uk/forums
You can apply for a free account there. They also have fairly cheap deals for more bandwith and file storage. hope this helps.

Another very good reliable UK host which gives a personal service, and is not afraid to have there own forums, is reviewed here:

I have to say I have never had any joy with Britich hosting companies. In the true ethos of rip off Britain they charge more than US counterparts, the service is poor and it seems to be down a lot of the time. If this wasn't serious enough, some will not allow you to host with them and register the domain with someone else.

A colleague has had real problems with one and one, but has sadly locked himself into a 12 month contract - a very british thing I guess.

What a wonderful regulated society we Brits are!

Cheers
Jools

I'm hosted with www.alivewww.co.uk, who have very reasonable prices and good setup. Reliable and quick to respond as well.

I wanted to fly the British flag, being from England myself. The UK is still very behind the rest of Europe and the states interms of technological application. This is mainly due to British Telecoms hold on the distribution and infrastructure. The knock-on effect is that the market appears to be less competitive and resourceful that in some other countries. This will change by 2005 as 97% of the country will be converted to broadband exchanges. Undoubtedly, this will improve services, competition and resources. Sadly I settled for hosts based in the US as they simply offered better service at better prices. Remember in the UK we also enjoy a rather good exchange rate at present so, $6.00 American dollars looks very attractive when converted to UK sterling for a months hosting.

I am a Brit.

I have 8 XOOPS based sites.

and I use

Blackfoot

They have excellent support.

The thing to check is that the hosting company you sign up with, allow the use of xoops. You must always use the latest version, some companies will pull your site if its not up to date.
