That info is coming your way along with the login for the webmaster for the site.

I really can't thank you enough!

Hi Hervé,

I am exporting from an old (1997) MS Access database. It offers very little options for export.

What I did is I made a query in Excel to import the data from Access then saved it in pieces as a csv file.

Is there a better way to do that?

Gail

when you are exporting your datas, be sure (in the options) to delimit strings with " (quote)
But even like this, I'm not sure of the result

Actually, your index page generate more than 400 queries.
The index pages of the news module need to be optimized, this will be my tomorrow's task.

There are no options to do that in Excel unfortunately. Excel has no option for export, only for "save as." If I knew a way to do this in Linux (my prefered operating system) I would! I'll bet I'd find the options that I need there.

The interesting thing is that the import will literally take over a thousand records before any trouble happens and all of the records that import ok are full of commas since they are all articles. Something is making it break and I don't think it's the commas, something else that I'm not sure of. I'm going to keep trying.

Thanks for your help!
Gail

These files won't reopen in Excel because they also have html in them br and p which Excel then promptly dumps into another cell when it finds it.

I am re-loading everything now and I'm checking the web site after each upload. Seems to be working, before I did the entire upload and then checked it.

I may just have a MS program bon fire after all this!

Added Later:
It seems to have worked to reload the site between each import of records into the database. I'm not sure why but I'm relieved that it did! 6,600 articles and 6 hours later and they are all showing up as they should. Whew!

Hervé,
Please feel free to dig into the site tomorrow if you care to, expecially if it helps you to understand what happened. I will be working on it the remainder of today and tomorrow after about 10 am Pacific Standard Time.
