It could possibly be your server memory limits, as many people have reported this issue with a different number of emails being sent.

I am not sure if the core have addressed this issue, but the version of evennews I have been working on will.

Thanks and yes it was memory limits, I've increased the memory and it works fine.

I was wondering if maybe it was execution time, that mailing so many people was taking too long and the script timing out.
