I played around a bit. Here what I came up with.
I added a new XoopsCode called siteimg.
All you have to do is write [ siteimg ]imagePath[ /siteimg ], where imagePath is the path of the image, relatively to your XOOPS root. (Note, I inserted spaces before and after the [] so the tag does not get interpreted...)
XOOPS will automaticaly insert the root path of your site before the "images/test.jpg"
