Hello all you good people!

I wrote http://www.BelugaBlues.com a couple of years ago and would like to rewrite it in XOOPS so I can easily use great things like forums, etc. It will also give me a good reason to do more work on my booking system module I wrote last year for XOOPS.

I'm worried it will be hard or impossible to incorporate the current design into XOOPS template and was wondering whether any experienced theme developers wouldn't mind taking a look and letting me know their thoughts... you can create a free account or use my test account to log in with - username testuser password bbnmpg423

Many thanks in advances,

Steve

Now I'm thinking either it is going to be an impossible task to write a suitable theme, or I phrased my question in the wrong way making people think I was asking them to do my work for me - hopefully not, wasn't supposed to sound that way!

I'm not a big theming expert but I can tell you that XOOPS is very flexible with what you can do with it. Check out chapi's site for a good example. It's kind of close to your layout. There's a lot of good themers out there that would be more than happy to help you get started if you are having trouble getting your feet off the ground with it.

By the way, sorry for taking so long for a response ;).

Ah, cheers - that's a great site! Was just asking as I'm not really a CSS and HTML expert - I stick to creating apps.

Thanks for the reply - wasn't moaning about response time, just worried that it was going to be impossible to do in XOOPS. I'm still waiting for a reply from a support question about my P900 from SonyEricsson which I asked over a week ago, and those guys get paid!

Thanks again,

Steve

Re: Question for theme developers

It is not that hard to change a good layout to an XOOPS theme. If it should look exactly like the existing layout and has sortof the same general layout (header at the top, blocks right left and center) it is very easy.

E.g. I work off templates from TemplateMonster and count 2 hours of work to turn it into an XOOPS theme.

A lot can be done simply by changing the default CSS and theme.html to look like an example page from the existing layout.

Of course, if most of the existing layout is done directly in the pages and not through CSS, it is a bit harder.

I'd recommend that you copy the default theme and change the style.css by copy-pasting bits from the existing layout's css file (provided there is one) as well as copy-paste the header part from the existing HTML pages into theme.html, replacing the things already there.

Thanks for the reply Mithrandir.

I've been playing around with 7dana-clean so it's making more sense now. I think the new site will look cool if I take the good bits from the original site plus the good bits from XOOPS .

Now I understand a bit more I'm not as scared :0)

Cheers,

Steve
