messed up news, can't reinstall now - help!

i overwrote my news module with another module i was trying to install by accident. so, i uninstalled that module. i uploaded the news module from the XOOPS installation files. now when i try to install it, i get this message:
"Table 'xoops_stories' already exists
Unable to install news. Error(s):"

what should i do to be able to reinstall the news? help!

edit /modules/news/xoops_version.php and comment out these lines two lines:

$modversion['sqlfile']['mysql'] = "sql/mysql.sql";

and

 $modversion['tables'][0] = "stories"; 
$modversion['tables'][1] = "topics";

after which, try to install the module again
