A friend and I are seriously considering making a new module, which - if we are succesful - would be made public.

What we need is some kind of introduction - a how-to description - to guide us.

Things like naming-conventions, what to start with, what not to do, etc.

Does such a description exist somewhere?

There is a description under "Module development" on this site, but is there any additional documentation?

What can you recommend?

Thank you.

Grab an existing module and see, how it works. I have learnt a lot from the News module with regards to preferences, comments, notifications and just basic file and directory structure.

Thank you.

The page has been bookmarked and we will have a look at it later.

@ Mithrandir:

We will do that too, don't worry

Probably we will end up using snippets of code from already existing modules, mixing it with homebrewed code.

This may be what I need -

I've been toying with the idea of making a "blank" module, with the purpose of having somewhere to put certain content. Something like Free Content etc, but the idea is to be able to install as many as you need, and to call them whatever you want. The main function would be to be able to bind certain blocks to them if needed. This comes up following an opportunity to use XOOPS for a Playstation RPG game site, where there is a lot of content on different levels of nesting, which I couldn't achieve with any standard module.
