Hi Jack,

My site is built around wfsection I have 456 articles all in that module. I have a mysterious version have a look at this:
Resized Image
Yes ... 1.01a I've only found acouple of bugs so far

1/ can't prevent anonymous users posting articles
2/ can't reorder articles properly in categories.

Other than that it's sweet. (at least for my applications)

I have 3 questions.

1/ where is your download link?
2/ 456 formatted articles is some serious amount of work. Will your version respect existing data, article id, etc... etc.? I Can't possibly risk losing this amount of input.

3/ what is your recommended way to update the module?

Thanks for your input and advice.

Richard

Hello there

I checked my version strangely enough it is 1.1a, can't remember where I picked it up, but I have added a lot more fixes since.

My version does not have the anon posting problem but does ask for permissions. I am able to re-order sections according to weight if that is what you mean by categories order.

Their is no database changes, files can be overwritten, however I don't know of course if yours is a database problem. I would not like to take chances with all your existing files, specially if they are not external HTML files, and stored in the database.

You could rename your existing wfsections folder, and upload this version, at least you would have a backup.

For your existing anon user problem you could remove the existing submit.php from view by changing the code in xoops_version.php in wfsections root i.e.

$modversion['hasMain'] = 1;
global $xoopsUser;
if(!empty($xoopsUser)) {
$group = $xoopsUser->getGroups();
if (in_array(2, $group)) { //or other group-IDs
$modversion['sub'][1]['name'] = _MI_WFS_SUBMIT;
$modversion['sub'][1]['url'] = "submit.php";
$modversion['sub'][2]['name'] = _MI_WFS_POPULAR;
$modversion['sub'][2]['url'] = "topten.php?counter=1";
$modversion['sub'][3]['name'] = _MI_WFS_RATEFILE;
$modversion['sub'][3]['url'] = "topten.php?rate=1";
}
}

this would at least hide the sub-menu from anon users

It looks like the signatures keep vanishing, I am athttp://macambridge.com look for my downloads link.

regards

AAAaaahhh !!!! Maybe I downloaded this version from you in the first place. Someone else has a version 1.01 with a different footer. that's why I was curious. OK, Jack thanks for the candid advice, I'm going to implement the submit patch for now... It's the only bug that causes me a problem. Thanks for the reply and answering my version mystery!!

Dr3vil -

Good question. This module was also the centerpeice of my site, too. After waiting six months for an update, I decided to abandon XOOPS altogether and go with mambo. WF-Sections was the whole reason I went with xoops.

I have had Mambo, it is a very good CMS, happy Mambo-ing..:)

We try not to knock other CMS's here, or if someone does, it is discouraged. We are fortunate to have these free CMS's.

I am more than happy with wfsections, the version I have has no bugs that I know of thanks to contributions by the Catswolf and other talented Xoopsters..

Apparently the next version will be functionally similar to the version athttp://gaining-mass.com so perhaps we will see you again, worth waiting on I think..

I have a version 2.01 off the modules dev CVS - but I don't know how fit for production this version is. I expect Catzie to give confirmation for that himself. Unfortunately, leading the module dev team together with a very big workload at his job has made it hard for him to do much there.

I don't know how much the CVS is open for the public, either, so I won't go into more details as to, what and where and how to get this version until confirmation from "a higher place"
