What happened to the mod.dev site?

I thought when it went down late last year that it'd be back up soon, but this is getting rather silly ~ no clear news (like a notice beside the home-page link) or anything.

Anyways; if the only issue is a willing server I might be able to help, but the current stagnation concerns me both for the sake of my own business and the XOOPS community.

Look forward to and update,

Keith

You mean modules.xoops2.org?

We've moved somewhere else and there'll be a launch of sub-sites to xoops.org regarding modules, themes and other things ... erhm.... soon... I'm told

Thank you for that info - it is certainly good to know.

For those making decisions (or not as the case may be) on the release; please understand that the current lack of community-involved, centrally coordinated development initiatives has already cost the community opportunities for growth.

I don't say this to slam the core team efforts (indeed, I applaud you all for your commitment, effort, and dilligence), rather to highlight that even having a simple site designed around mod/theme dev was better than having nothing at all.

So again, looking forward to the release,

Thanks,
Keith

We are far more active then you know. We simply aren't publishing the dev sites just yet as there is still some work to do (Herko can fill you in more then that).

As for community involvement, there are several road map threads going on for all devisions of XOOPS ( and we are follwoing the suggestions made there). I don't believe there's any need for you to see our "work" discussions. It would most likely lead to mass confusion since we are constantly evolving our strategies.

Anyways, not to worry, we are still busy at work and members will have access to view the dev sites shortly. But again, I'll leave the details to Herko.

There is a site dedicated to modules being prepared right now, with the official XOOPS module repository, and lots of module related information. It'll be closely tied to the main xoops.org website, and it requires some more work, but it's getting there.

As for community involvement, we need to have the proper organisations set up in order to handle community involvement in a good way. With this I mean that it needs to have a place to ensure the involvement is meaningful. ANy ideas about involvement are welcome, of course, and we've got a lot of things planned. But, the way it works is we can't say anything yet about release and event dates, just because I don't know. One thing I've learned is that planning is very hard in an open source project

The dev site is active already, as some of you may know. But is still needs to be readied for the public, and as soon as that's done, we'll post an announcement for everyone. I hope that will be at the end of this month.

Thank you all for responses; though I'm sorry to waste your time on this PR post, I know for myself that your explaination is enough to ensure me that there is both active and wise action taking place - action that is worth shutting my mouth and patiently wait for .

As always, many thanks for your care - both to the core team and community.

Cheers,
Keith

I definately don't see this post as wasting my time! I think your point is valid, and in the beginning I thought we could have all this set up and working sooner, but as it turns out, things never move as fast as you want them to (meaning I want them to faast, not that the people are too slow).

I think the community and its participation is the biggest asset we have. So, I would like everyone to be able to participate as soon as possible too. But, in order to have a meaningful participation, we need to have lines of communication, and places where people can meet and create in place. And that (plus a few things that should have been done a long time ago, as well as continued development of all the core parts), is what is going on right now, behind the scenes. Knowing how eager everyone is to participate, but also how critical everyone is when it comes to the 'official business', I want to give you things that work, not half-sinished things. So, be patient
