An update. I tried a stats service called pphlogger that comes with the "blockies" module ( part of the Brasil module pack)
Thisis a very useful statistics service run by pphlogger that works with blockies. I was really pleased with the results, but it uses javascript and php. Downside is I worked out that once any page had been parsed it slowed the loading time by about 30% !!!! I had to turn it off. Pity, the stats are realy good. I think you might like to be aware of this, as it makes the script almost unuseable.
