Phpnuke has a module that gives you a center block that you can put at the top of your page and have the center block feature 2 or more smaller blocks in it. It would be nice if that module could be converted to xoops.

Yeah, I had to rearrange one of the theme.html files so that the center_center block would be on the bottom and not on top. I wanted to have my center_left and center_right blocks on top of the big one that stretched across the table, but it's default was set to below. I wasn't happy with the layout for ages.

I finaly took the plunge and dove right into it and got it looking how I wanted within 20 minutes or so. Now I have my left and right center blocks on the top o fthe page as opposed to the bottom; much better looking for my case.

As mentioned, it would be nice to have a little more flexability in this regard, but I agree on the importance of it from a development standpoint. It's one of those "like to see" as opposed to "must have or fix" scenerios.

At least we have the option of looking into how it works and editing our templates with little ease... I mean if I can do it, a monkey can!

The only way to get this flexibility is to have an "upper-center" and a "lower-center (as well as an "upper-center-right/left" and a "lower-center-right/left" block - but that's just the way XOOPS is now. There's no difference between one center-center block and another center-center block.

Hehe, yep. When I was fixing up my theme, I got to thinking about how I could do this sort of modification myself. When I came to the same conclusion that you just posted, I tucked my tail between my legs and ran away yelping. hehe

Based on that however, it may be worth looking into how this part of the system works and making the appropriate modifications. Although I have to admit, for me that would be quite a feat.

/e follows the yelping dog...

It would be an ideal system me thinks

Problem is that you'd need:

Upper-center-center
upper-center-left/right
center-center
center-left/right
main contents
lower-center-center
lower-center-left/right
lowest-center-center

to get every possibility listed... quite a long and incomprehensible way

Thanks for the clarification before I spend hours digging through files. I didn't know if I was encounting a bug or something. It was a little misleading as since everything is based on weight, I thought there was more flexibility in positioning. Thats OK.

This is but a "small" issue to deal with. XOOPS is such a great app, I'll deal with it! Perhaps some snowy day this winter, I'll look into a workaround!

Keep me in mind if you all solve it sooner!

This isn't just a 'small fix' that can be done with a 'workaround' I'm afraid. The Core Development Team is looking into this seriously, and we'll report on the progress soon

No, I know it is not a "small fix". It is a core functionality issue. I meant that the positioning issue was "small issue" for me to accept in the light of the rest of the great functionality of xoops. My workaround is to determine the way I need to present my data in the current block configuration.

One suggestion would be to enable the definition of custom block locations. In the site prefrences somewhere I could add names for custom block locations. Then in my main theme.html I could define any location I want that block to show up in.

Then locations like center, left, right ect would just be the default custom block locations.
