I have been rolling out a new website for some time. I have had reports from my testers that they get an error when they try to register with the site. I started investigating and found that if a user has NIS installed on their system, and they try to register, administer blocks, sections, or post messages in the forums, they experience errors and are unable to perform their tasks.

I have installed ver 2.0.3 but have not upgraded to 2.0.5 because I havent had the time. (I do plan to perform the upgrade to 2.0.5 before the site goes live.) Has this issue been addressed? If not, it should probably be investigated...

Here is a snipit from a correspondence with one of my testers where I ask for some screenshots:

> I have uncovered some issues with user registration. I have seen
> in some test cases that if a user is behind a
> firewall, then the registration fails with an error message. I have also

XOOPS uses cookies that store HTTP Header information to check if you're logged in on a site or not. This is a very secure way and also makes less use of the database, so your site is faster. Some firewalls block this info, and thus, the XOOPS sites don't function correctly.
IMO this is more an issue of 'how to deal with your personal firewall' then a XOOPS issue.

As Herko says, NIS blocks some information XOOPS needs to have an faster way to identify yourself.

However, NIS is not the only prog that causes this problem, if you used the search (next time do it before you post) you will find hunderds of post about this problem. (All ppl that don't use search ) If you use NIS or Zonealarm as firewall only, it won't give any problems, it are the 'extras' of those firewalls that causes problems...

So, advice you members to:
1. Use a decent firewall
2. Configure there firewall good, so it is a firewall, and not oh let me block it all...
