Updated info to help find this one:

When I installed xoops, I initially had a standard "RPM" based apache / php install.

I needed to upgrade apache to 2.x for a number of reasons. I statically compiled php into apache at that time.

I did a test and backed out to the old apache / php combo - and uploads work.....

Any hints? Anyone?

Hello,
This may or may not help.
Check your post_max_size and make sure its not at a low setting. Depending on if you have many people hosted 55m is a good setting.
Also check your upload_max_filesize. 50m is good on that.

Hope that helps.

# grep _max_ php.ini
post_max_size = 8M
upload_max_filesize = 2M

While they arent around the 50 meg size you mentioned, they should be large enough for a 16k image!

Any other ideas welcome!

Still unsolved problem... The problem is environment (apache or PHP related) .... I would really like some help tracking this down.

Thanks

Greg.

P.S. Before you ask:
php.ini contains
file_uploads = On
upload_max_filesize = 2M

Did you configure the imagemanager under preferences imagemanager? and set the rights/permission?

For avatars : default 120x120 pixels and 15 Kb. If your avatar is to big it won't work.

I'm having this problem on a free account... I doubt I can edit their php.ini... Does that mean no av's for my site, wise sage?

I get this when trying to upload avatars or images for imagemanager:
Errors Returned While Uploading
File not found

I have verified that the uploads dir is writable, so that must mean the webserver doesn't allow for that? Is there any way to circumvent it, of will I have to forget avatars at all and upload images through ftp?

Where can I find php.ini in a default Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 install? I am having a hard time finding it... I'm no linux guru...

Or whats the command to find it by piping all the directory contents into GREP or something... Thanks!
