Hi,

I'm excited to do the upgrade to 2.5.0.

However, when I follow the link to the downloads on SourceForge.net, It goes from 2.4.5 to 2.5.0.

Can I use that with 2.4.4? If not, where do I get "upgrade from 2.4.4 to 2.4.5"

thanks

David

Re: Upgrade from 2.4.4

Just follow the directions for the other versions. It will work fine with 2.4.4. There are bugs with 2.5 so you might be better served to get 2.4.5 and install that and wait for 2.5.1 and see how that works out.

Thanks for the advice.

When I visit the download page, I see:

xoops2.4.5-to-2.5.0.zip
xoops-2.5.0.tgz
xoops-2.5.0-mini.tgz
xoops-2.5.0-mini.zip
xoops-2.5.0-mini.7z
xoops-2.5.0.zip

Since I have 2.4.4, which would I use - I guess that's my question.

thanks again!

Re: Upgrade from 2.4.4

The full 2.5 and you need the upgrade package in it.

the .zip and the .tgz are the same, just compressed differently. Normally zip is for windows and tgz is for linux or mac.

The upgrade package is contained in the full package and will have directions in it.

Thanks again!

I'm downloading the 2.5 full package and will do the install.

I have looked everywhere, but haven't found a single instruction on how to upgrade from 2.4.x to 2.5.0, and when I try to upgrade in the same way I've done with previous versions (in this case, copy the full 2.5.0 package over the existing files, copy the upgrade folder, and then access the upgrade folder) it just tries to redirect me to the page /upgrade/install/index.php, which doesn't exist.

Read the directions from the original news article if you have a problem...

(Weren't these directions with the install? If not why not? )

Follow the instructions from the release news

Quote:
Upgrading from XOOPS 2.* above 2.0.14 and 2.2.* (using the full package)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before upgrading, verify the system requirements!

0. Unpack the archive to your LOCAL computer (e.g. PC) in a temporary directory.
1. Move the "upgrade" folder inside the "htdocs" folder (it's been kept out as it's not needed for full installs) on your local computer
2. Delete htdocs/mainfile.php, htdocs/install/, htdocs/cache/, htdocs/template_c/, htdocs/themes/ and htdocs/uploads/ from the "htdocs" folder on your LOCAL computer
* if you have created XOOPS_TRUST_PATH folder on your server, copy the content of /xoops_lib to that directory, and delete /xoops_lib from the "htdocs" folder on your LOCAL computer
3. Delete the /modules/system directory on your server (important to get rid of unneeded files)
4. Upload the content of the /htdocs folder on your LOCAL computer over your existing files on your server
5. For security considerations, you are encouraged to move directories xoops_lib (for XOOPS libraries) and xoops_data (for XOOPS data) out of Document Root, and change the folder names.
6. Make the directory of xoops_data/ writable; Create and make the directories of xoops_data/caches/, xoops_data/caches/xoops_cache/, xoops_data/caches/smarty_cache/ and xoops_data/caches/smarty_compile/ writable (permission 0777 on Linux).
7. Ensure the server can write to mainfile.php (permission 0777 on Linux)
8. If you have Protector previously installed, open the "mainfile.php" file , and remove the Pre-check and Post-check lines (if they exist):

include XOOPS_TRUST_PATH.'/modules/protector/include/precheck.inc.php' ;
include XOOPS_TRUST_PATH.'/modules/protector/include/postcheck.inc.php' ;

9. Access /upgrade/ with a browser, and follow the instructions
10. Follow the instructions to update your database
11. Write-protect mainfile.php again (permission 0444 on Linux)
12. Delete the "upgrade" folder from your server
13. Update the "system" module from the modules administration interface, other modules are recommended to update as well

Redid it and now it works. Thanks for the help.

However, I do think these instructions should be included in the download package as well.

Hello all.
I am new to Xoops. I am very excited from what I have read Xoops can do. I was wondering if you can help me on this. I have an account with my provider that has CPanel an Fantastico included. There I can install Xoops but version 2.4.4. I wrote support and they suggested to stay with that version since it is the one they think will work fine with their service.
Do you think it is a good idea? Or do you recommend to install that and then try an upgrade to latest version?

Thanks in advance
Jorge Biquez
