I have been obliged to migrate to a different hosting company, and everything seems to work well, except that the system won't send notifications to users when a new message is published in the forums or events like those.

I have double checked everything and i don't have a clue what could be the reason for the problem, I thought that maybe if I change the email sending options from PHP (the default one) to sendmail or SMTP it might work again, but I can't change that options. I mean, i change the option, accept and the system tells me that the database has been succesfully modified, but in actual facts it remains as it was before. i can't change it.

Do you have any idea how to fix the problem? Thank you very much in advance.

Is this 'not able to change' also observed for other preferences?
XOOPS, PHP, MySQL version?
Do notifications by PM work?
Are other emails, eg during registration, sent?

Thank you for your interest. There are other preferences that can't be changed. For instance, I can't change the theme, or the administrator email (and probably many others that I haven't tried yet). Curiously enough, after every attempt, the system tells me that the database has been successfully updated.

PM between user work properly, and the module events guide also send notifications to users (???)

XOOPS: 2.0.7.3
PHP: 5.2.11
MySQL: 5.0.89-community

Do you have set caching on for modules, like system?
Try with all caching off.
Which preferences work, can be changed?
If you change something, and it says database updated, can you notice the effect?

- Every cache module is Off
- I have found out that I can't change ANY preferences
- The message I get every time I try to change something: The database has been successfully updated, but in actual fact nothing changes and I can't notice any difference.

No messages with debug on?
Can you alter other things like forum posts, etc?

I can't set the debug mode on, since it is in "Preferences". However, I can edit or delete the forum posts.

It sounds like a table not working properly, doesn't it? But I have checked it and even repared the whole database, with no noticeable results :(

For debug, see this.

It could also be some session or XOOPS security problem. Can you change things in the module admin, as eg creating news categories?

Having set on the debug mode (thanks for the info), I get this message:

Notice [PHP]: Only variable references should be returned by reference in file include/functions.php line 518

It appears kind of 50 times. I can create categories in the forums. Apparently, I can change anything I want in the forums, but nothing in the system.

Is it possible to fall back to PHP 4? I assume this was on your old server?
