Hi. I have tried uploading a few modules I thought would be fun for my community. After uploading I only see text in the install module section. If I install they do not appear to work.

Some modules that work fine:
NEWS - Version - 1.63
FAQ - Version - 1.1
Marquee - Version - 2.46
Liase - Version - 1.26
Polls - Version - 1.1
Forums (CBB) Version - 3.08
P'tities announces - Version - 1.4
MediaWiki - Version 1.71 (although I have disabled this because it takes over my site and will be confusing for my users to get back to the site)

ALSO:
PHPMyAdmin - Version - 2.6 (although the only way to get to this is through the module page and clicking the icon from there)

Modules with missing button/icon (text only):
My Shop - Version 2.2
UserPage - Version 1.4
Digital Photo Album (Tad Galery) Version 1.3

As you can see... some modules work fine. Is there a problem with my MySQL version or is there a problem with the files downloaded?

Why doesn't the "Module Icon/Graphic show up?

I did try to install the applications but they didn't really work.

check if modules you did upload are in a right folder. Sometimes, folder are duplicated inside them & cause issues like these you report.

Other easy way before delete is moving & trying in modules admin. If you use Filezilla (i use it), you can move up any folder. Try to move one by one & cheching at same time.

I know exactly what you are talking about as I have run into that before (and it gave me lots of trouble and took some time to figure out).

I did take your advice and I did go double check just in case I did that again and it appears that I have uploaded the correct folder. Very odd.

Looks like modules that do not work are the last ones alphabetically. Probably you have a problem in myshop module, making the following ones not work. Such problems are often related with php parsing errors. Check myshop language files and if php version is suported.

Check for correct directory alignment.
Every subdirectory of /modules/ must have a xoops_version.php eg. /modules/myshop/xoops_version.php
In xoops_version is also the image location (relative to /modules/moduledirectory/) specified. Check that the file is present.

Any messages with debug on?

(Is this MyShop in fact Oledrion? That should work without problems on PHP 5.2+)

You need to remove myshop folder to see if it is module problem or not.

I resolved his issue with TadGallery - he had a wrong name of the directory, after I've changed to "tadgallery", the icon works.

But with UserPage and Oledrion I couldn't do it. I'm getting 500 error. Strangely enough, I am getting the same issue on my local WAMP 2.4 installation, i.e. the image is not visible, and when I'm trying to see the image directly by pasting the image URL:

There is an .htaccess file in the oledrion directory. Try once again accesing the image without this file.
If it works, then your Apache is probably not configured for URL rewriting.

yep, delete the htaccess. our modules are shipped with url rewriting capabilities. since it's not (yet) managed by core, it's embedded into our solutions through htaccess files.
