I am having a ton of trouble getting email setup. I am trying to send it through my ISP so that emails can be sent out when new accounts are created. I have road runner

so I am trying SMTPAuth with my roadrunner email and pass word and the server as smtp-server.san.rr.com. But it is still failing saying it cannot connect to SMTP server. Any ideas?

Asuming the site is hosted somewhere and not on a private server... Why not use php sendmail? Smtp servers from isp's are normally blocked from the outside to prevent abuse by spammers.

The other thing to check is to make sure you enter your entire email (not just your login name) for the SMTPAuth user name... for example enter 'yourname@san.rr.com' not just 'yourname'

I haven't been able to get sendmail to work either, something about not being able to instantiate the mail server.

I have the server hosted on a fedora linux box at home and use a dynamic dns to access it.

The site is at liberate.homelinux.com. Would any of that make a difference?

Erm..... you do have sendmail running on your server, don't you?

Sorry, but sometimes the obvious question has to be asked

The POP (from external) seems active but SMTP not.
Check that the assignment of the mail address and user alias (with implied mail address) in the admin mail preferences belongs to your domain.
