I got rid of newBB and got CBB 3.09 instead for my site. I installed it and tested it out with a test account/email and the registration process works fine. However, when I get the activation email and click on the link to activate my account, it takes me to the registration page. I don't even receive a registration email saying that the account was successfully registered.

Also, when I make a post, I get a message saying that the 'post must be reviewed by the moderators before it gets submitted.' I logged on to my administrator account to see where I can turn this off, but I couldn't find anywhere. I don't even know where the pending posts went to try and approve them! Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance

I also tried to send private messages using my test account but they don't send (The box says "the message has been sent," however when I log on to my other account to check my mailbox, I don't receive the message). I'm not sure what's going on...

click on the premissions tab from the cbb admin and set permissions for groups that may post without admin approval

Thanks. I got it working :)

I'm still having those same issues with the private messages, though :/

Also, for the user ranks, how do I make it so that when new users register they are automatically assigned a rank and there's no post limit in order for it to stay?
I kept the Min and Max Posts areas at 0, but the ranks don't show up for new users when they post. The 'special ranks' radio button was kept at 'no' which was the default settings.
So I tried setting the min and max posts to 1 and 3 but after you post higher than three posts, the rank goes away...
I don't want to have to manually set ranks for new users because that seems to be the only way I can get the ranks to show up when they make a post. I just want it to apply to them automatically. Is there any way to fix this?

After many hours of attempts, I've pretty much given up at this point and set the max posts for a rank to the highest it will go (16777215). I just hope the user will still keep the rank if they ever get to that point.

My issue of focus has been the private messages now and the new user registration. I've searched google and I've not found anything relevant to what I'm looking for. I'm still unable to send or receive PMs nor does a "you've successfully activated your account" email get mailed out when you first sign up and click the activation link.

Can anyone around here help?

It seems your mail settings (admin preferences system mail) are not correct, because registration and notification mail are not sended.
What are your current settings (anonymize username and password)?
Is it a new XOOPS installation and did the mail ever worked?
The user alias email should have the same domain as the mailserver.

This is the first time I'm checking the mail and private messages. I installed XOOPS in December 2008.

here are screenshots of the settings I've made regarding the mail and new user registration:

Did you try SMTP?
Use localhost as host name and the user and password as you use for webmail.
