Well, all the templates I downloaded are in compressed folder zip format. when i try to upload the them i get an error

If it is a theme (as from the Themes Gallery), then you better unpack it local and then transfer the subdirectory (yourtheme) in /themes/ to the /themes/ directory on your site with FTP.

Ok, I am new to XOOPS but have installed many themes and templates through FTP with other applications. I have unpacked a theme and attempted to FTP the files with success. The files show up in my themes directory in FTP but on my site there is no record of the theme. Any ideas?

Welcome to the XOOPS Forum!

You have to enable it in the admin - system - general - preferences.
Watch out for alignment of archive directories: the theme.html should be in the right directory (/themes/yourtheme/theme.html).

Or in English, see this tutorial

Can someone help with this, because I can't see what I'm doing wrong.I've downloaded a theme, unzipped it, uploaded it via filezilla to the themes folder.
Gone to Preferences - System - General Settings - but in the boxes for default themes, admin themes, or selectable themes - no sign of the theme I've uploaded. How do I get to it?

Hi,

Some themes come packaged inside multiple other folders. The correct folder to upload is the one with theme.html inside it.

Does this help?
