Not everyone can send PMs

Some members are saying today they are not able to send private messages. They are getting an error that says they don't have permission if they try to PM site admin or members in some of the special user groups. It seems registered users can PM each other though. What is causing this?

You mean that it was working fine until today, now it's stopped working? First thing to do would be to back track on any changes you've made in the last day or two...

Sounds like the permissions for the "private messages" module are set wrong.

Check the settings in group permissions for registered users having access to the private message module and user profile.If those are invisible or unchecked to users they cant use them.

I tried to hide those in the main menu on my site cause it seemed kinda repetitious to have them in the user menu under one name and using another name in the main menu serving the same purpose but people started complaining fairly quickly so I had to let it be.I might hook up the multimenu module sometime and try to make it look better.

I know there is a problem somewhere in the permission scheme of 2.3.x, but I don't remember if there was already a fix or what it was. (Try to look up the thread)

This is strange. I was pretty sure that we've fixed that.
I just created a new account and logged in, and I can see my PM button (i.e. Mamba's).

Of course, when I'm anonymous user, I don't see it.

Are you sure that you were logged in, when you tried to send me PM?

Yes, i'm logged in and I sent pm to other friends and they recive it.

The only thing I have changed recently is adding CAPTCHA.

I'm not sure how long the problem has existed. I just had a complaint yesterday when a registered user tried to send a PM to an admin.

Was it fixed in the core or on XOOPS.org only? Can you point out what the correct code is and in which files, so Daethian can verify if she has the good code on her site.

That was to Formulaire and not to PM?

I sent PM to mamba but he didn't receive it, but now it's ok.
