Do you see any avatars in admin - users - find users?
What is the error message (debug) or what code is in the html source for it?

actually avatar uploading was forbidden before so users couldn't upalod any. i do not want to turn the debug mode on cos the site is on, but the html code is:
<td class="head">Avatartd> <td class="even"><img src='http://freelancersupport.com/uploads/cavt491bf6fe8bd2b.gif' alt='Administrator' />td>

i get this error image instead of an uploaded pic:
Resized Image

I am not sure you can see the image, but it's just an image you see when it failed to find an image cos url is wrong.

Your html code seems ok.
But both links to the images return a 404 error.
Check if there is an avatar image present at:
http://freelancersupport.com/uploads/cavt491bf6fe8bd2b.gif
or what is wrong with
http://www.freelancersupport.com/images/error.gif
The rest of the message is standard, I assume:
Quote:
??? ??????? ???????? ? ????? ?????? ???????????? ????????? ?????? 404. ????????????? ???? ?? ??????. ????????? ???????????? ????? URL.

It seems I can not post the Cyrillic message. I can see it nicely in preview, but submitted it turns into question marks?

that's very weird. http://freelancersupport.com/uploads/cavt491bf6fe8bd2b.gif causes 404 error message " ' the file couldn't be found (that what written in cyrillic)' but when I go to my ftp to /uploads/ i can see it there. but when i copy cavt491bf6fe8bd2b.gif to my local folder and try to open it, it says can not open a file. it gets corrupted in when uploading to uploads folder?

Is the permission for the uploads folder OK?
Can you do uploads with image manager and use the images in a post or news article?
Is there any .htaccess that manipulates URL's or blocks images?

it's 777 for the uploads folder. yeah i used some images for my news section and it worked alright. i have .htaccess, but it's just for one page redirection and url rewriting

thats what it looks like:

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule modules/profile/([^/]+)-to-([^/]+)-translators /modules/profile/search.php?source_language=$1&target_language=$2&op=results

RewriteRule modules/translation-jobs/([^/]+)-translation-jobs /modules/translation-jobs/search.php?dirid=5&q=$1&submit=Search

RewriteRule modules/lexikon/glossary-cat-([^/]+) /modules/lexikon/category.php?categoryID=$1

RewriteRule modules/profile/id([^/]+) /modules/profile/userinfo.php?uid=$1

do you think that's the problem?

If it is working in News with image manager, then you should have some files like /uploads/imgx9x9x9x9x9x.gif (look up the real URL in the article). Are these working if called directly in the browser address bar or give they also the 404 error?

The .htaccess is OK I think, because not interfering with the uploads or image directory.

Did you try with replacing the cavt491bf6fe8bd2b.gif avatar file with FTP by overwriting it with a correct image with the same name? If that is also not functioning and still returns a 404 error, then there is nothing left then to open a ticket with your hoster.

Don't know if this is important or not, but compare the two links to the image above:
javascript:CaricaFoto("http://www.freelancersupport.com/images/error.gif");
&
http://www.freelancersupport.com/images/error.gif

See the reference to CaricaFoto?

I can open the second link in my browser, but not the first.

The tracker at Sourceforge shows this problem, and there are a number of topics on the Caricafoto issue here in the forums, somewhere...

just an idea.

No, that might be a problem of how he edited the link or how this forum encode image links, but has nothing to do with his problem.

The real problem was the embedded link, which I extracted (as shown in one of my previous posts) did not work on itself and generated an 404 error on his server.
